I think that Q&A they put out with the trailer said we aren’t going to Wutai until the third game
They are probably reimagining it quite a bit since in the ReMake they imply the war with Wutai is still ongoing versus the original where it’s been over for years and Wutai turned into a kitschy resort town as a result
Also the data on each disk contains the full game, just that so much space was taken up by CGI is why it spanned 3 disks in the first place.
Honestly after the big kill there isn't a lot that happens from a story prespective. You go to northern crator, cloud gets mako-sickness, meteor shows up, cloud wakes up, collect the 4 mcguffins, the weapons attack, and then you go kill sephiroth. The northern crator part seems to be being handled out of the normal line up of events so that just strikes one thing off the list early.
Our introduction to Cid will probably be when launching the huge materia into space to try and nuke the meteor in the final installment.
Wrong thread I am dumb
So they're putting a lot of resources into the playable Sephiroth. Do you think we could see the sub-franchise try to rehabilitate the character? There's always the debate of.... does Sephiroth control JENOVA or does JENOVA control Sephiroth? In the original canon I think Sephiroth is definetely in control but maybe we could see it play differently here. Maybe the last half is more about dealing with cosmic horrors of JENOVA rather than machinations of Sephiroth.
Or maybe Nibelheim is gonna be 10 hours long and that makes the playable Sephiroth totally worth it for SE.
I think Nibelheim will at least be 5ish hours so playable Sephiroth makes sense. He's still the big bad of game so doubt they are trying to fix his image
What if he's just the antagonist and Jenova was the villain the whole time?
maybe the real villains were the Freudian alien symbiote mother figures we made along the way
I understood it as Jenova can influence anyone with her cells in them, enforcing her will, even if they have their own agency. Sephiroth was created from her cells, so while he does have his own will, his will is also influenced by her desires. He's basically her child and wants what mommy wants. Even with her dead, he's still her baby and carried on her wishes.

it's intentionally left ambiguous (are her command cells controlling his behavior, or is dead Northern Crater-Sephiroth controlling Jenova-Sephiroth and her offshoots throughout the game's events? or some symbolically incestuous Freudian symbiote relationship), but original Seph mentally broke when he discovered the truth at Nibelheim before any contact with Jenova and after a life of being a war hero. p clear he carried out that massacre and broke bad as himself, because of the psychological trauma of discovering his origin.
My personal take has always been that Jenova was more or less a red herring by the time VII comes around. The narrative revolves around the revelation that Cloud's memories were all false and brought about by his extreme trauma. As his darker mirror, it would track that Sephiroth was going through the same thing, but amplified a thousandfold, his ability to manipulate Jenova cells actually letting him create physical constructs of Jenova to pretend she was there and speaking to him.
Sephiroth might be traumatized and able to manipulate Jenova cells, but does he know why children love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
Or in a cruel twist, was it the discovery of this knowledge that led to the Nibelheim massacre?
Alternatively, perhaps he could not find it after that long evening in the basement library, resulting in the torching of Nibelheim.
Do kids actually love Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or did Sephiroth alter the timeline to make it that way?
i hear Nomura seeks to explore the silly rabbit multiverse in ReBirth
Well thats the thing, the first part of your statement is probably true, I think JENOVA is completely checked out leaving Sephiroth that is able to use his will to affect the cells.
Because none of the Reunion stuff really happened until Sephiorth was out and about running around.
Shoutout to Hojo for being an awful scientist and totally fucking up the control group and parameters of the experiment.
Sephiroth was never in control; it was always Jenova. IIRC, the 12 sephiroth clones were all former 1st class Soldiers that fell under Jenova's control, trying to get back to the source. Sephiroth and Cloud were able to resist the most, for plot reasons, and the last three fights go in order:
- Jenova∙SYNTHESIS - Final form of Jenova, after absorbing all of the 12 Sephiroth clones.
- Bizarro∙Sephiroth - Jenova attaching to Sephiroth and directly controlling him, during his initial transformation. You can even see 'her' on top of him, directing the main body during it's attack animations, after partially merging with him.
- Safer∙Sephiroth - Fully fused Jenova & Sephiroth.
- Sephiroth - Cinematic - Happens inside cloud's mind as he finally faces and overcomes his inner doubt about who and what he is.
Man I don't remember there being twelve specifically. I just remember him dropping random parts of Jenova you had to fight until you discover he is in the crater.
