There's no confirmation of that. I guarantee the shots so far have all been flashbacks interspersed to look like current day

We know they are flashbacks, but they show a different past than what we knew from the original. However, there was some recent description for the game or something released by S-E, where they heavily hinted at this being a separate reality.

The only major narrative changes i see happen do just revolve around Zack as has been pretty much the case already, everything else will be the same with somethings maybe being in a different order. I'd imagine that the whole Zack scenario will be for a big thing happening in part 3, especially with how the reunion is now "Where timelines converge" or w/e Sephy said in the trailer so i can see it being Zack popping up at the very final fight but everything else? yea gonna happen, Aerith will die, Sephy gets the black materia and summons meteor etc.

They're going to keep hinting at that to keep the engagement with the game and then everything is going to be basically the same.

think you're underestimating the Japanese / Nomuran desire to desecrate their own creations. would be surprised if the main narrative plays out as before instead of going full subversion mode.

I'm not sure why they think Sephiroth being a protagonist means he'll have a redemption arc and be good. Protagonist =! the good guy, it just means he's one of the lead characters.

I can't recall where the flashback ends in Kalm. I thought Sephiroth reading the journals and the Hojo parts were all after Aerith's death, and prior to him going mad he was actually kinda edge lordy and cool in a good guy kinda way. Maybe even protaganisty.

Honestly, the story will stay the same until Kalm, where Tifa will finally speak up and be like "Pause, you said you were doing WHAT now during your visit?"

I can't recall where the flashback ends in Kalm.

I recall it ending with Cloud going in there to confront Sephiroth (where Zack gets knocked out in actual event).

Since we got Glenn, Matt and Lucia playable in Ever Crisis, I am half hoping for a FF8 like sequence somewhere down the game (or the 3rd game) where we flashback into them and play as them like we do with Laguna, Ward and Kiros!
