I've not read/posted in here but god damn. The amount of work that went into this game is actually fucking insane. Man, I;m only on Chapter 5 and there've been so many amazing backdrops/environments.

I'm towards the end of Chapter 6 and this game has been absolutely amazing. Some of that is from FF7 being my first FF and one I have the most nostalgia around and this game has basically everything the OG did but expanded on it, all of it. Every character is just awesome, the dialogue is wonderful, almost every story "change" makes things make so much more sense cause you had to basically headcanon certain details to try to make it make sense, and two examples below cause I've literally seen an OG purist complain about it.

Early chapter 2:

Tifa talking to Aerith about Cloud not being at Nibelheim for the Seph event makes SO MUCH SENSE. Why would Tifa have not said a thing to anyone their whole journey in the original? I love that she brought it up and makes things feel more believable.

End of chapter 2:

The whole Midgardsomr scene. In the OG you have to get a chocobo to cross and the snake is chasing you through the swamp, but once you arrive at the mine, the snake has been killed by Sephiroth. SO HOW IS TEH SNAKE CHASING YOU!? That never made sense in the original game, but the way they did it here makes sense.

I love that every time you see Sephiroth, there's a clone around. And not just the robed mindless zombie ones, but Cloud sees Sephiroth at the very start of playable Kalm Inn, and that's because of the Innkeeper being one. It's such a nice little detail to be keeping track of that so it's not like Seph just appears randomly through bullshit.

I saw a Polygon(I think?) article the other day that was saying this game is "everything wrong with game development today and why there are layoffs" because of "all the minigames, trying to be like Witcher 3". Bitch this game and its minigames INSPIRED Witcher 3 more than anything. Don't go writing gaming articles if you don't know your shit. And boy did they ever dial up the minigames in this game, rofl. But aside from the Pirate's rampage shooter one, I've gotten max rewards through only a little effort, and am enjoying them all. Not sure I'll be getting that Time materia, though lol

I was committed to not playing Queens blood and well, game *laughs in mandatory minigame blitz*

It's not....terrible. It isn't "the numbers are what the fuck ever man good luck" like blitzball could be or "fuck you here's a horrible rule that you spread around the world because fuck you" that triple triad could be. And if they don't force another card tournament, I wont have to worry.

Ugh the sit up minigame

The final round is just brutal again. Just like in Remake you gotta be perfect, one fuck up and might as well restart. Also comes with lovely RNG. Looks like your opponent is always gonna score somewhere between 49-53, you just gotta be perfect and hope you get a good RNG roll to beat him.

I was whining about that this morning but I want to add that not only did they bring it back for NO REASON they also made it even worse with the adaptive trigger "hold it half way then finish" shit being randomly thrown in. My winning run was 58 situps to 50 with 0 fuckups and I don't think it'd be possible to win with anything less because the AI cheats and does them faster than you ever can.

Honestly the belt kind of sucks anyway at the level you get it. For me it is straight up worse than an enhanced Supernatural Wristguards... and by the time I have enough base HP for it to be better I'll probably have found even stronger strength accessores

actually scratch that, Supernatural Wristguards are already better. I was comparing to the previous tier, hi-power wristguards. lmao

For the situp minigame I actually LIKE the new mechanic, I hate doing the rapid fire for R2/L2, that's the one that fucks me up. I figured the belt wasn't great, was about to just give up, but gave it a couple more chances and finally didn't fuck up. Then the belt is a slight downgrade from the str+HP+250 one I have on, maybe in a couple more levels it'll be a tiny upgrade, lul, but I imagine once I get later in the game where it scales better, we'll have access to much better anyway so...yeah.

And honestly kinda wish there was more Queens Blood (optional) in the game with some neat rewards, I like it, it can be hella RNG, but it's far more simple to understand. Legit I never got the FF8/FF9 card games, maybe cause I was younger, but sometimes it just seemed so random. This card game feels pretty straightforward and like picking up a new board game at a friends house.

Each new region just keeps me amazed at what a beautiful world they crafted. And it's good that they try to mix up the exploration to make it diverse, although that current region is kinda annoying thanks to that ;P but still, so beautiful

got a perfect score on all 6 songs finally, not yet sure if it's required for platinum, but we'll see lol, song 5 is the only level 4 difficulty one and I bang'd my head on it for like an hour and a half to get it done.
