Still in the Gongaga region and it’s by far been my least favorite open world area of the game so far. The places the main story quest takes you is pretty good actually. But the open world part is awful. It’s too dense so riding chocobos means I CAN’T SEE SHIT with all seven party members and their birds bunched up. And I really, really don’t like the different elevations using the mushroom and tree branches. If it wasn’t for my open world completionist brain damage I’d have already moved on hours ago.

I initially did move on, then I noticed that the rewards for VR fights from Gongaga had a Strength up, speed up and elemental materia and had to back track lol

Despite what IceSylph said, I think I dislike Gongaga more, but I'm now done with Gongaga and need to go finish Cosmo which is maybe half done, so might change my tune soon lol

Yeah, I'm not sure if auto cast for pro/shell works that well, but maybe later game I might consider it somewhere. Was doing some more playing and the Focused line of weapon abilities will only be used on a pressured enemy. Still trying to figure out about Red XIII abilities going off, if I could have him as a buffer/tank without having to babysit him much that'd be so awesome. I really wish there was a triple materia link late game, cause then could auto-cast + magnify + barrier or something. But I think it would have made more sense to just have the auto-weapon ability materia to work for whatever 4 things you put on the command menu. Because like, the magic cost reduction materia would be plenty viable someone would just keep the spells up, it'd be a bit too costly considering how mp management works in this game to just automate that without. I'm not sure where I'd use the magic cost reduction materia over other options, though.

In theory you should be able to do autocast+barrier and then magnify+barrier to achieve that effect I think?

I tried this with synergy+fire and then mp absorb+fire and it did not seem to work. Maybe my test was shit, but I think they closed that loophole. Or maybe it would work with auto-cast but not synergy.

I need to test stuff a bit after I'm done AP grinding here, I wonder if I can set it up where I have Synergy + Healing and a Magnify + Healing, so every time I use an ATB on my selected character my AI character will send out an AoE Cure for 0 MP and ATB cost.

Synergy + Damage Spell and MP Absorb for sure works, it just doesn't Absorb a ton of MP so it's harder to tell, it's more noticeable with HP Absorb, though using Synergy + Comet is a fun time lol

Neat, I'll look into it again then. I only have the rank 1 mp absorb and still running max materia slot weapons, not max magic attack for Aerith, so I only saw a tick of 1 mp and figured that was just mp regen, but makes sense it's just from how low the % absorb is. And yeah as soon as I unlocked comet I tossed it into synergy and laughed. Didn't seem especially effective (only place it would be are some of those gold saucer arena fights but those guys die so fast anyway it doesn't matter) or I guess maybe hard mode for a certain flame boss, heh.

My original plan when attempting the mp absorb+synergy combo was to keep Aerith from running out of mp while healing but probably need more magic attack for that to be in any way viable, but next weapon level for me seems to even up a few different weapons across most chars at 5 materia, so may be able to swap to more magic attack there. Also forget where the magic up materia I have is, may not have gotten it yet, actually...

Oh but before I go to bed, some of the Gongaga VR fights were so incredibly annoying. The first one which had the claw dudes who could disable you via-CS, so nothing you could do, and you have to stagger them asap or they'll just do it to the other 2 on your team, and then the fight you need to kill the mindflayer first on, eventually got a little smart and put sleep materia on, but then it still wasn't working so I had to swap Aerith to a longer duration weapon skill and give her the materia to cast, those fights took me a lot longer than any of the previous ones, lul.

Man I am only leaving Costa del Sol and already so many minigames before even getting to Golden Saucer.

How many minigames should we have?

    FF7 Rebirth devs: Yes

So I'm almost done Cosmo Canyon and Gongaga is by FAR the worst region to do quests in. Once you figure out the flow of getting around Cosmo Canyon it's not hard. Much more difficult to wrap my head around all the mushrooms going every which direction and a new hill every 10 steps than glide around.

Yeah I just said fuck it and looked up a video guide on where to go in Gongaga to reach the Intel locations. I'm at the age where I'm not spending time running around fuck all looking for the specific entrance route to something when there isn't a consistent and clear way to reach the area. Where will this mushroom send me? Across the street or across the continent? WHO KNOWS LET'S FIND OUT

Exactly. Once you get going on gliding in Cosmo Canyon, almost every single runway just leads straight ahead, maybe a slight veer to the side to hit a fan, but it's just endless straight shots. Also each one counts as a fast travel so you don't have to start all over if you get distracted by another thing to do (which is basically this ENTIRE OPEN WORLD). I need to do the protorelics and final super boss in Cosmo and the Bugenhagen sidequest, then I'm 100% it. Though I'm already halfway done Nibel region and I feel like I barely spent time there and I've not done the story yet, lol. So guess they decided to make the middle of the game peak annoying for getting around and then chilled on it.

I didn't really have an issue with Gongaga navigation... not really sure why there is so much vitriol for it.

Gongaga was a bit confusing until I figured out which fast travel points led to useful mushrooms/branches to grind across, then it was pretty easy to navigate

Yeah, Nibel is the shortest region in the game. Although I'm still missing the last choco flower or whatever they were called, but screw tyring to find it for now. I'll wait until there's a list or something

I feel kinda dumb, but how do you get extra of the special regional hunt mob materials like another Quetzacoatl Talon or Mindflayer Crown? They seem to get used for quests (like the Windmill gear in the Grasslands), but there are also accessory recipes that use them.
