I always expected this would be the case since we could already go to lvl 50 in Midgar..

I just saw the trailer and for the record I have not played the first part of the remake but..WTF is up with the voice acting ? It all sounds awful and doesn't fit at all to me.
Tifa being one of the worst offenders imo.

The combo moves in combat look pretty, otherwise it looks like exactly the same game with a brighter color palette.

I hope there are some perks that carry over but obviously being over tuned and face stomping the entire game from the start wouldn't work. I think if perhaps levels into a weapon carried over and items (besides obviously broken ones like Gottdammerung) carried over it would be a good compromise. Like the All materia would be a good one to give as a bonus

And then they could start people who have a fresh file with some basic default set that isn't as good as people carrying over previous save data.

I think something that would be nice is if you unlocked a special challenge by carrying over save files from the start to the very end and you finished all the super challenges along the way, you got access to all the super broken gear and materias for a hard challenge fight.

Hack GU had something like that, each game had a special fight, which gave you a key item, if you had all the key items by the last game you would get extra rewards from that special fight.

Yeah that's what I'm basing my ideas for carry over from. The original .hack and the GU games. Item phase out hit pretty hard because of level cap increase and scaling, but there was still a point to do the post game challenge fight

It looks like they're reusing a good portion of assets and animations. The game isn't restricted to having to run on a base PS4 anymore, but looks like portions of it are just copy paste from the previous game, even down to seeing some visible pop-in on the foliage during the heavily curated trailer.

It's to be expected from SE, but still lame to see from a project they're supposedly putting a lot of tlc into (other than the story or voice acting)
