Are there any treasures for the pirate compass besides the jetsam? Kinda disappointing to not get anything cool after killing 4 bosses lol

You have to kill them to get ingredients for the Genji armor accessories, and a lot of strategies for the super duper hard combat simulator fights rely on those accessories carrying you.
I demand immediate payoff!!
The Genji gauntlet is the only one that's really core TBH. Never used the rest.
Any tips for Cactuar Crush hard mode? Only tried on Aerith so far but not even getting close to the target. Think I maxed out at like 3500 lol
charge up Trancendance right from the start, Sorceress Storm pretty much everything you can, and then pop Trancendance to kill the Jumbo Gold Cactuars when they spawn, other then that it's pretty much just git gud
Ah it was the Jumbos eating up my time. I'll try out Transcendence
When you get to the Yuffie ones, you have to understand the difference between Windstorm. Does different types of damage when your shuriken is flying vs when you have it in your hand. That's pretty much the core way to clear the fodder efficiently, then you use big banishment charges on the jumbo

I blame this thread for somehow impacting my YT algorithm, woke up this morning for YT autoplay picked the Easy Allies interview with Maximillian Dood that went four hours, woke up just in time for his rant about the ending and things he looks forward to in part 3, good shit
I didn't have transcendence when I did it for Aerith. I think mostly my priorities were Hermes boots for the haste (big difference maker for slow as fuck ATB Aerith), First Strike Materia, I think ATB stagger and of course the Strength and Magic UP materia at whatever level they were at (I think there are some little cactuars that you can only beat by thwacking them with Aerith's rod for physical damage, hence the Strength materia).
But yeah, mostly just focused on Sorcerer's Storm spam, using fully charged Tempests every once and a while to get that fairy familiar to help with extra regular attacks... and I think I used Radiant Ward on occasion too but I don't remember. Knowing what mobs are coming and being ready to switch Light and Dark wards helps a lot with time too. Chrono Aegis can be helpful too for the little cactuars that run up to hit Aerith too.
For Yuffie, when she's holding her Shuriken it's Magic damage, and when she's thrown it it's Physical damage (which also gathers up small cactuars too conveniently). That's the big one. And yeah Banishment on the Jumbos is huge. Hermes boots, First Strike, etc, etc, all nice and useful. Oh and ofc Doppelganger is a must
You cant craft Genji Gear outside of hard mode?? Thats asinine.
you can just load chapter 12/13 on hard mode and just go kill the regional bounties for the items, takes like 10 minutes or so.
Yeah but I can't do that until I beat the game. And that's the complaint lol
Genji gloves to break the damage cap outside of hard mode would make everything in normal ridiculously trivial. I know that's sort of the point in old school JRPGs including VII OG (KotR - Mime, Final Attack - Revive), but I guess it's not what they want in this game.

My issue with it is that we chased the protorelics all the way from the start of the game to the end of the game. And then to be told, oh you actually have to beat the game to use it is annoying as fuck.
The protorelic quests are worth seeing to the end because they open up some of the most fun “normie” fights outside of the insane difficulty combat simulator stuff. Challenging but not brutal, gimmicky but not TOO gimmicky and obscure that you need a specific character build or gear. Plus the story is fun.
Aerith is really fun to use, but she's got such a slow build up between needing both arcane and radiant wards down. Then it gets ruined by the fact that the enemy always switches to target your controlled character.
Like they make characters with niche roles so supposedly you are supposed to balance the party, but Barret and Red effectively can't tank unless you commit to controlling them 24/7.
