I felt like they did the scene very well. I can understand a letdown if you really thought they would branch off at the end and make Part 3 a totally different game by having her survive which would have implications for her summoning Holy.

But there was definitely a point in it beyond blue balling you from the suspense. By traversing to the alternate reality, Aerith was able to switch her white materia with the one from the dead world but Cloud also brings back the black materia. The reason why the white materia and black materia had to be Endgame heisted is yet to be discovered, but it's obviously something that is going to be relevant in Part 3.

iirc original Cloud loses the black materia twice as well, in the North and Temple. Nothing has really changed. Holy was AWOL after Aeriths death so I don't think much on an empty materia that disappeared anyways after her death in the original. Both materia can end up the same in the sequel and it wouldn't be incongruent with what they've shown so far. If the timeline bullshit doesnt pay off in the 3rd game then jfc what a wasted opportunity after all these red herrings. Zack mentions as much in the ending, but also

Yes, the journey is definitely different. But the important story beats remain the same. Anything pivotal in the original plot remains pivotal here which I was not expecting cause timeline changes and all that.

1. Gamers should’ve stfu with Aerith’s death from the beginning. Death is a part of life, grief is a part of life. Sometimes things just don’t go with how we want.

2. SE shouldn’t have caved into the demands of the playerbase in such a half-assed manner. Should’ve just ripped the band aid, maybe have more Aerith cutscenes, prequels and if they really’ve wanted a DLC or something.

Did you buy it? Ultimately, the sales will be the determining factor to SE. If you bought the first two and are pissed at how things have gone, you have your answer as to whether to buy the third.

Well the game was absolutely fantastic man. Yeah I am not happy about the time/alternate shenanigans but everything else was fucking amazing.

It was one of the most enjoyable JRPG's I've ever played, I didn't like the way they've handled Aerith part but I am not gonna chalk the game off for that lol.

Yeah the gameplay is top tier, and not just for a jrpg. I enjoyed a lot of it, but I'm just mega let down by how much focus there was on possibly changing the future a.k.a. lore, and then just ending this game the way they did.

Other than that though the game was great fan service.
