I mean they have changed the lore though, no? The alternate timelines are not something ever mentioned in the games or the extended universe stuff (that I know of anyway).
While they've split it into three parts, I don't think it's fair to critique the story until we've gotten all of it. They haven't fundamentally changed a whole lot in terms of story beats but they have fleshed out a lot of things and are, in my opinion, pretty clearly setting up some big moments in Part 3 that may end up being significant departures from the original.
I was actually kind of gutted at the end of Rebirth because I was really hoping they would let us save Aerith this time, and thought we did, just to get stabbed in the heart again anyway. I think what they set out to do with that scene was try to make it as impactful as the original even though many people (thought they) knew it was coming. To me, at least, they did succeed there.
They may not stick the landing (and even if they do it might still piss purists off) but the setup is all there for them to make some significant deviations in Part 3. I'm still on board with the theory that the remakes are actually sequels to the OG instead of retellings.
I am not convinced the alternate timelines will amount to anything besides fucking with the players and everything else will happen the same way again. So we will have to wait for part 3 for sure.
They didn’t change the lore
These are sequels, not remakes (despite the title of the original)

Wrong thread? That's just the Part 1 DLC right?
For maximum troll, they should call part 3 Final Fantasy VII: Resurrection.

SE is having trouble porting Rebirth to Xbox. Cite memory issues, likely from the Series S.

Remake Intergrade demo was added on Switch 2
Switch 2 version is simply amazing. Solid 30 fps, looks excellent, runs excellent.
I am not a trophy nut but beats me why Nintendo refuses to implement achievements. It’d add another layer of replay value and would cost next to nothing for developers since they already have them on other consoles. They kept sticking to the reason they’ve given 15 years ago, that “its up to the players to chart their own course and have their freedom”. As if you can decide to side with Shinra and avoid all bosses down the line lol.
Sad that I’ll 100% this on Switch for sure. Felt the same on fft.
With Switch 2/Xbox release there also gonna be an update for Playstation/PC versions that'll allow you to do 9999 damage/hit, unlimited hp/mp etc.
Wonder if you'll be able to get trophies w/them.
So, Switch 2 version is out (Remake, not rebirth) and I am super excited to be playing it again. It looks MUCH better than I remember probably because I played the whole thing on PS4 Pro. Can't believe it had been almost 6 years.
Locked 30 fps may put some off but I don't really mind, other than that it is probably the best port on Switch 2 along with Cyberpunk. There are progression bonuses that gives you max HP/MP, etc. but I'll be playing it as it was intended.
Time to 100% this baby.
FYI, the entire trilogy is on its way to Switch 2 though I am curious how they are going to do with the more demanding Rebirth. A slightly watered down PS5 Base version probably (Rebirth is the only game that made a huge difference on PS5 Pro so far).
Given the Steam Deck (the most comparable hardware to the Switch 2 I guess?) can run Rebirth with a mostly maintained 30fps, I don't see why a Switch 2 couldn't handle it.
Granted, it looks blurry as shit on the Steam Deck, but I would assume/hope S-E would put some resources into optimizing assets for a dedicated port for Switch 2, so they can run it at a more acceptable base resolution, rather than banking on DLSS-Light to clean-up/anti-alias a low resolution image. Least it shouldn't be on the level of DQXI where S-E had to basically rebuild the whole game for its Switch 1 release.
The main upgrade 7R on Switch 2 seems to have is mostly not having the texture streaming issues the PS4 original had, probably courtesy of it both being the Integrade version of the game (which comes with other visual benefits), but also it simply having more RAM available than the PS4, and flash storage vs. a 5400rpm drive..
