Remake wasn't 11/10 quality, but I dunno where the complaints about voices, gameplay, or quality come from. That shit delivered and instantly transported me back to 1998.

FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH is the second entry in the FINAL FANTASY VII remake project, which retells the story of the iconic fantasy game that redefined the RPG genre in three distinct games. The game looks gorgeous. I'm not complaining.

I'm still frusrated with how.... misleading the devs were in regards to the faithfulness of the remake. But whatever we're always going to litigate that.

I kinda like the melodrama angle they're going for, Cloud's sketchy resume vs Cloud having to negociate his memories and doubting Tifa (I kinda feel like this could be a mislead and he's supposed to be talking about Aerith but thats a thought for another day). I think that's an interesting angle because in the OG, Sephiroth was the one telling the truth and Tifa was lying by omission. So this inversion is kinda interesting to me.

I think the only thing I was even slightly bummed about is it looks like characters won't carry their levels over from Part 1.

The environments look amazing. The walk up to Jeuno Harbor looked amazing. The combat looks amazing. If you didn't like Part 1 for whatever reasons (let's be honest, 97% of the people who didn't like it just don't like that it wasn't a 1:1 retelling of FF7), I honestly don't know what you thought SE could or would do to change your mind for Part 2 (other than just scrap whatever they're doing, which is obviously reasonable).

It looks like they're reusing a good portion of assets and animations. The game isn't restricted to having to run on a base PS4 anymore, but looks like portions of it are just copy paste from the previous game, even down to seeing some visible pop-in on the foliage during the heavily curated trailer.

It's to be expected from SE, but still lame to see from a project they're supposedly putting a lot of tlc into (other than the story or voice acting)

These are valid, but I think ultimately subjective opinions. First game was gorgeous to me on PS5 and them reusing assets had to have saved a large amount of development time

I'm also not really that bothered by games that aren't graphically perfect ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not a retelling is one thing but the way they did this is classic Nomura, for better or for worse

They weren't really misleading though. They did say it would diverge from the original, and if you wanted one that's faithful to the original story you can play the HD remaster version

Don't care for the remake, changes would have turned me away even if I did originally, but I legit just want to see their take on Sapphire Weapon's attack on Junon, that one was amazing even in the original (except for the part where it accomplished nothing except for a conveniently placed small hole in a wall).

We hear him saying she can make people see "people they fear, or hate. Or love." And then it ends with him saying he killed Tifa 5 years ago, so who is that?

At least that's what the trailer makes it look like, and it's Nomura, so my inclination is those two sentences come nowhere near each other in the game and what's actually going on will be convoluted and unexplained during gameplay.

Yes, and I think this fits completely with the original story.

Because that Sephiroth should actually be Jenova anyway. And he did gravely wound her at the reactor. I think it's just more fucking with Cloud's head

I interpreted that as Tifa questioning whatever the fuck Cloud was rambling about in the Kalm flashback scene. And Sephiroth playing off that.

I figured they’re addressing one of the bigger plot holes from the original game where Cloud tells a made-up version of what happened at Nibelheim 5 years ago, with Tifa conveniently staying quiet about the whole thing.
