Least it shouldn't be on the level of DQXI where S-E had to basically rebuild the whole game for its Switch 1 release.

The main upgrade 7R on Switch 2 seems to have is mostly not having the texture streaming issues the PS4 original had, probably courtesy of it both being the Integrade version of the game (which comes with other visual benefits), but also it simply having more RAM available than the PS4, and flash storage vs. a 5400rpm drive..
Yep, indeed hoping for a better than PC handheld version on Switch. Their confidence and overall work with Remake keeps my hopes sky high.

tbh, for remake I was expecting something close to PS4 Pro version but we've got a game almost par with PS5 performance mode, fixed at 30 fps.

New interview with Hamaguchi, talking about minigames. He confirmed Queen’s Blood is coming back and will be expanded even more. He also confirmed snowboarding will return and says it won’t be a basic snowboarding sim and will have be important to the story, but he cannot go into detail. Says the majority of the main game scenario is playable now and they are tuning and polishing. He says the name of part 3 has been decided and locked in and can’t wait for the announcement.

I am OK with mini games, but Rebirth went a bit too far. side guest wise what made a jrpg better had always been a solid hunt system for me.

So, considering that this is the end of the trilogy fingers crossed for challenging hunts, true superbosses and such.

XII had always been my favorite but it was the hunts that turned it into a masterpiece.

Come on, SE. give us a damn solid reason to max our characters and focus on strategical combat.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but overall I've been kinda meh on the remakes. Watching certain cutscenes in advent children type high def is cool, but the gameplay loop and mini games really sucked a lot of joy out of it for me.

I still stand on all the mini-games being SE just using us as guinea pigs for gacha shit.

Mini games were a core staple of the OG FF7 so I’m fine with their inclusion

Yeah hunts should be a chocobo-esque permanent staple in FF games. I yearn for FFXII more than any other title in the series because of them, and they were the best part of FFXIII on Gran Pulse as well.

I loved the mini games. The game had golden saucer after all, I am glad we got a buttload of them

Only complaint is I wanted more Fort Condor. I'm sure it'll be back in part 3

I'm with Tyrath. Adding a more expansive hunt system in would be icing on the cake, though.

I keep meaning to go back and try Zodiac Edition of FFXII. Wasn't as much of a fan when the original came out because it was fun, but felt.. off (the pacing by the end just felt abrupt) -- sorta like they wanted to make a bigger game, but got cut short or something.

Golden saucer games are fine, that's the zone for it. But EVERY zone itself is so full of mini games or uninteresting mini errand. I just didn't need all that, really would have been fine with a 20-30hr shorter game.

Also we had the equivalent of hunts in this game; that's what so many of the monster fights are in every zone, but the system was worse than any hunt system they did before and the rewards suck. The VR fight they unlock yields some good rewards, but again the system kinda sucks and just wasn't fun to engage in imo.

You know you can skip most of them after the first attempt right? Refusing to skip optional content cuz you gotta 100% something sounds like a you problem

It is a matter of preference, and I understand and respect those who enjoy minigames. However, they make up a significant portion of the side content, and while they are technically optional, they are an important part of the overall game experience. As the examples above like XII and XIII, strong side content is often what turns a good game into a great one. Would The Elder Scrolls still be The Elder Scrolls without its side quests?

Designing a good hunt system or in general battle focused side content is extremely difficult. First, there is the issue of balance. Developers must create an entire set of enemies parallel to the main story, with appropriate stats and move sets. These then need to be engaging and rewarding enough to pursue alongside the main story. While it is possible to reuse some of the assets, there needs to be truly special encounters every now and then to make it interesting and challenging. Finally, this content should be designed to push players’ battle strategy well beyond what the main story requires…this is where they truly shine in a JRPG.

Minigames, on the other hand, are exactly that. Minigames. From developers perspective it is much less demanding develop them and they are usually completely unrelated to the game mechanics.

I absolutely love both Remake and Rebirth, but with their dynamic, challenging and fun battle systems I think there is a missed opportunity here.

Most of the minigames weren't my favourite things ever (Queen's Blood rules though), but it feels weird to me to see people complaining about the part that introduced the Golden Saucer having too many minigames.

    Fuck Jules though.
