Hamaguchi hinted that the third game will bring in new gameplay elements that weren't in the first two. "We didn't want the three installments to be a reskinning of the same game over and over again," he said, speaking through an interpreter. "We want to make sure we're expanding with every installment in terms of scale, as well as retaining that freshness as you go into each installment."

Jason Schreier: Will Rocket Town be in the game?

Naoki Hamaguchi: Yeah, this is one of the elements we had to switch around with Rebirth. Yes.

It’s one of the main locations. Yuffie’s made a very prominent appearance, stating her case about her homeland. So if Wutai’s not featured, I think the fans are going to yell at me

Will the Highwind let you fly anywhere?

We want to expand on the gameplay experience. Flying the Highwind is a very large part of the third installment. Let me leave it at that.

Chocobo breeding?

I can’t say yay or nay on the actual breeding. But there is an element in the third installment involving Chocobos that is a little different than Rebirth.

Will we go to space?

I’ll keep that a secret but considering Rocket Town is a yes…

Will we go underwater?

It’s an interesting question because [Motomu] Toriyama handled the submarine portion of the game. So perhaps he has injected himself into there. And I will leave it at that.

Will the Great Glacier area be as big as it is in the original game?

Because it is a major element in the game, I won’t go deep into details. But considering that toward the end of Rebirth, we’re in the Forgotten City — and in the original you would go into Icicle Inn from there — I guess that hints at how the third installment will begin. I hope the players will look forward to it.

i should beat Rebirth as thing's shapin up to finally end next year. despite all my issues with it it ought prove quite the achievement, reimagining a vidya classic has never had this kind of effort put into it before.

I think they improved them a lot from ReMake to ReBirth. It felt like in ReMake just when I’d get ready to fire off a LB the boss would go into a phase change or cutscene and I’d miss the LB, but that didn’t happen in Rebirth nearly as much.

LBs in Part 1 just felt more like scripted flourishes than an actual combat mechanic because you got them so infrequently. They felt better in Part 2 but the higher level ones were still pretty hard to get to, in part I think because the lack of difficulty settings meant most fights really didn't last long enough to get to them.

Mostly I just hope Part 3 has better difficulty options. The combat in Part 2 was very fun but things just died too fast for my liking.

Edit: Barrett was the only one I found not all that fun. Yuffie was okay once you got a lot of her skills unlocked.

Aerith was the only bore to use to me. Tifa was the most fun, followed by Cloud. At least Aerith, when you figured out how to best use her, was really useful. Cait Sith just sucked no matter what.

Yuffie was great. Doppelganger+elemental weakness exploiting was fantastic for the main game and then her being an ATB battery for the challenges

Barrett was alright. Nice for some ranged damage but slow as fuck and I barely used him as a 'tank'.

I'm happy with the frequency of LBs in rebirth, I just didn't like the system they used to build up to the higher level ones. Like you said Obs, by the time you use the synchro abilities to level up the LBs, and then actually get the LB bar full, things are usually dead. Or if you're facing a boss you're usually better off focusing on a different strat to beat em

Motherfuckers out here still asking "Will X be in the game?!?!?!?!" After the devs repeatedly been saying for the past like 7 years that nothing will be cut is honestly wild to me when all they've done is pretty much expand everywhere and given 0 indication that something would be cut, and yes some things were moved around which we were also told about before the release of Rebirth...after those same effing questions were asked, like just give Hamaguchi a big neon sign at this point that just says "Was it in the OG? Then yes it will be there"

As for LBs i definitely prefer the take in Rebirth of "leveling up" to them with syerngies but a change i'd like is if you do that you don't get locked out of the lower levels, so if you go to level 2 LB you can pick from 1 and 2 and so forth (This actually might of been a things i just don't remember since its been a while) And yea enemies need to be a bit beefier by default for part 3 cause even the first playthrough on dynamic difficulty they flopped over pretty fast if you done more than just spammed Square with Cloud, doesn't need to be struggle street with every trash mob but actually being able to do more than 2-3 cool things before they just die would be nice.

Yeah Cait Sith sucked hard. Aerith gets OP as fuck as usual but it just takes a long time to get the materia setup to make her crazy good again. Her with synergy+quake and then mp drain+quake on my hard mode run just wrecks the regular mobs and gives her infinite MP. And then of course the genji glove+arcane ward double cast+faith crazy high damage magic (with a nice yuffie ATB battery too)
