they kill him hopefully
Thus creating another split in reality where Chadley gets revived but a Chadley from a branch timeline also infiltrates the game timeline, which is how we get up to three total AIs for the 3rd installment?
i appreciate Chapter 13 being brave enough to ask, hey you know how dungeons in RPGs end? what if one didn't?
WELL THAT ENDING FUCKIN SUCKED
Spoiler: show
p good game tho, grew on me a lot and the combat is best in series history. here's to 3 being another entertaining mess.
Interesting take on the ending. I actually had the opposite feeling, because

It wasn't my favorite ending but I didn't hate it. It did get me hyped to see what part 3 will bring, so in that regard it succeeded. But if I was to compare, my mind was full of fuck at the end of ReMake and what the possibilities for the series could be. By the end of ReBirth I was just like...oh, well I guess it's generally gonna go as expected, with a few curveballs thrown in there.
See while i get that sentiment and initially i agreed with it but after having well over a year to ruminate on it i would now say i disagree (Not saying your wrong for feeling like that ofc shits just opinions after all)
Spoiler: show
But again, thats just my 2 cents.
I'm kinda ok with it, because it's going to make the heroic BSOD in part 3 potentially hit harder.
it worked for obi wan and yoda. aerith is a jedi confirmed
Max with possibly the most polite “keep my motherfucking name out yo motherfucking mouth” video I’ve ever seen
Re-playing both REmake and REbirth on Switch to prepare up for the 3rd game, both being super enjoyable runs. I was initially distant towards remakes of legendary games, wondering whether they could hold up but now I am convinced that they are an opportunity for quality developers to do what they’ve always wanted to do.
As I previously mentioned REmake really aged well, despite being 6 year old now it felt nothing less than a completely modern title.
And transitioning directly from the end of REmake to Kalm/Nibelheim was memorable. I remember back in the OG days Sephiroth’s strength was left to our imagination after a brief opportunity for some random encounters. There were even gameshark hacks to get to control Sephiroth. And here, we got Rebirth, giving us a full tutorial and control over him.
This is gonna be a fun ride.
Brave choice replaying them before we have a release date!
My plan is to start once we're within 6 months lol
I will say Sephiroth's strength was NOT left to our imagination in the original. Just because we didn't get to control him doesn't mean we didn't get to see how absolutely insanely powerful he was during those fights.
I’ll be taking it slow, maybe Platinum both REmake and REbirth on PS5 down the way but I don’t think we’ll be waiting too long for the 3rd game. The developers had dropped the hints of this, that they are almost done with the game and in the polishing stage.
Sometime in June/July, after the game officially goes multiplatform on consoles i am expecting SE to drop the name and the release date, an early 2027 would be a sweet spot perfectly marking the 30th anniversary (31 Jan. 1997) and fully benefiting from the tailwind of Xbox/Switch releases.
SE has already announced the next XIV expansion is dropping in January 2027 and I don’t think they would release Remake part 3 so close to that, UNLESS the new expansion is kinda FF7 focused. For the corporate synergy and stuff. They did say there was going to be a big new event for XIV’s gold saucer, and most people assume it’s going to be a crossover event with remake part 3’s Gold Saucer.
Remake feels so old compared to rebirth, traversal wise. Rebirth isn't very different but the world was built better for the system they have. I find remake hard to play now cause of the corridors and just incredibly slow pacing.

Same, I intend to replay or at least watch a stream of it being played a couple or so months of the release (skipping side quests).
As for the uncontrollable Seph in the OG game, I always thought that was quite well done. One shots most things and is armed with all tier 3 magic with all attached, and in the event the mob did get a shot off, it did 0 damage (later I learned he was programmed to take 0 damage, not because of his "Touph Ring" (sic)). If Cloud dies Seph can revive.
What I suppose was lame was they depicted Cloud as Level 1. I get that's to show the difference between him and Seph, but it really made him really pathetic in retrospect (everything would one shot Cloud during that segment). One might say it really helped sell the idea that Seph is just really that strong and good. In contrast, he didn't seem that much stronger in the flashback sequence of Rebirth, though the game did attempt to highlight that (i.e. Cloud struggles against the mob as they got out the truck and Seph had to step in solo); at the same time it is a tutorial section more or less.
Since we're talking about Part 3, I'll throw my random prediction in:
The beginning segment of Part 3 will feature either a playable Young Seph and/or Glenn, Matt and Lucia as the playable characters as the tutorial/intro; this is to cover why they chose to make Glenn to be of some significance during Rebirth.
Predictions aside, the scale of things or the amount of things needed to be resolved in part 3 is really boggling to mind:
- Glenn as mentioned above
- the inital Northern Continent segment and the introduction of weapons
- Wutai visit + wutai war?
- Rocket Town
- they introduced Deepground soldiers as seen in Integrade, this was a surprise. BUT, I almost forgot but even Crisis Core introduced this regiment at the end of the game, so I guess it sort of ties it somewhat together. This might eventually involve Genesis but this is going rather deep down the plot book
- Cissnei (whom we know to have survived but never involved with the main game since, but the inclusion of her was also a surprise)
- plot ghosts, Zack
- it almost feels like Aerith will still be heavily in the game this time but only as an entity Cloud can see and/or Red can sense
- all the stuff above is on top of the usual plot elements, weapon attack on Jueno, huge materia, returning to Midgar
- gahhhhhh and all that really makes me look forward to Part 3 to see how it will all handle (including the world map, frigging Chadley, knights of the round summon, the expanded story with the Cetra as seen in the temple, and those people in the cave who wants to end it all)
Let's not forget the slap fight.
