They weren't really misleading though. They did say it would diverge from the original, and if you wanted one that's faithful to the original story you can play the HD remaster version

I think they were. The interviews gave me the impression its gonna be more or less the same, just with more stuff.

Like..... I don't mind we visit Jessie's house, since that's just more things. But the ghosts and meeting Sephiroth, I feel like you HAVE to play OG to appreciate the Remake....especially with the ending to Remake where you need to be familiar with a critical character of the OG.

I personally don't care and maybe I prefer it them to do what they were doing, but I think it sucks for people who didn't play OG.

I interpreted that as Tifa questioning whatever the fuck Cloud was rambling about in the Kalm flashback scene. And Sephiroth playing off that.

I figured they’re addressing one of the bigger plot holes from the original game where Cloud tells a made-up version of what happened at Nibelheim 5 years ago, with Tifa conveniently staying quiet about the whole thing.

I don't think it's a plot hole. It's addressed in the game. Tifa found Cloud and he was a blabbering mess. And she got confused because he knew stuff he shouldn't have known and didn't know stuff he should have known.

Granted, maybe you mean like, it makes sense to shut up not to hurt Cloud, but it wouldn't make sense to not \tell anyone else.

From Sephiroth's perspective, his "killing blow" on Tifa was a slash that sent her flying off the top of the steps in the Reactor. It's not unreasonable for him to think he did kill her, but we all know you need to double tap or check the body. From Tifa's perspective, she would've lost consciousness and perhaps bits and pieces of the event due to the trauma, but inevitably Cloud stepping up from his grunt role to confront Sephiroth would've happened without her being able to contradict on its own. Frankly, the big consistent plot hole around this event has been a lack of scar on her part. Can figure if Seph got her as good as he thought, it should run along most of her torso. To otherwise say Cloud's interpretation of the events didn't happen at all could imply Sephiroth didn't die and just went into hiding, as it could be argued Tifa taking the hit motivated Cloud to finally stand up and endure his own impalement.

Of course, Tifa keeping quiet can reflect her own confusion. If Cloud was just there, but in the Shinra gear, he was kinda sorta telling the truth. And that could be at odds with her own post-injury recollection. In the end, we all know it's just mind fuckery, because Nomura pulling an "ackshully she's a Jenova plant!" would embitter the fans with an intergalactic cosmic hate and crush any hope of a third game.
