Or we actually have more reliable information on why people died?

I'm leaning towards diet on this one. The increase is in a mere 50 years period. In terms of technology we are at a much better position but I'd reckon the symptoms would be pronounced enough to accurately diagnose in 1950/60's too.

There are some sacrifices we must make for the greater good. If 1000 early deaths mean 1000 asses were eaten then it will be worth the price.

Frankly, this rise in cancer is all the more reason we need an overhaul of our medical system and to start testing people earlier for numerous treatable diseases. Looking into breast cancer under 40 out of curiosity, I'm seeing numbers that suggest a yearly 3-4% rise since 2000. Brain tumors seem down slightly, but it doesn't really change the fact that getting one of those is bad news. Kidney cancer still seems predominantly 60+, but it doesn't mean younger isn't happening.

But yeah, just sucks we can't roll up to a hospital every 5-10 years, be like, "Run these tests, please!" and not get the stink eye because insurance doesn't wanna. Or they just tell you to lose weight and piss off.

Half the time it's literally because insurance won't pay for it.

I had a patient stable in the hospital on once daily medication and insurance would only pay for the shorter working twice daily dose at discharge, which wasn't as effective.

I finally got a colon examination this year. I tried for the past 2 years because of family history and I was going to have to pay 1700 dollars. It was finally covered this year and I still got a bill for 1100 dollars. Luckily I checked out perfectly fine, nothing found, so peace of mind is priceless. Still sucks that we have to pay for basic insurance

Don't remind me. I went through chemo this spring and I'm getting billed 2000 even though my insurance covered it.
