What if I told you people just arent going to the hospital over it since a trip to the hospital = filing for bankrupcy? Hospitalizations in Canada are trending upwards, while holidays 2021 were record highs, the current hospitalization count is still higher than no-vaccine times.

Hospitalization numbers are up here because when someone gets a cold they immediately go to the ER because of fear of COVID (because it's free) and protocol dictates they need to be taken in and tested. There's literally a grand total of 401 ICU COVID cases in the entire country atm. People are, in general, fine.

I'm a bit anxious to take the bus to work tomorrow. I'll probably ditch the mask (unless numbers start substantially climbing), but the anxiety is real.

Worst part is it probably wont take long for work to decide that hybrid should be more than 1 day in the office. <_<

Just wear a damn mask on busses, planes, areas like health care situations and shopping when a lot of people are around.

Might as well get used to it, because a pandemic is going to happen again.

at work when I'm down in the lab with fewer people around, maskless. Upstairs office area when I'm not at my desk, masked because there's way more people up there wandering around. Set a level of risk and PPE up accordingly.

Like when Delta hit last June, I was one of the few to start masking up again prior to the mandates being reenacted. My group followed my lead. 2-3 weeks later, California went back to masking. I also understood early that people are assholes and you can't control their behaviors, so do what you can personally control to minimize what risk is present, but don't waste your breath on telling others what to do.

Now work mandated PPE... ugh don't get me started at those safety violations.

I think we're pretty close to if not already at the point where if personal protection is your highest priority, then the maximum realistic PPE is required.

Given very few people still mask up around me, if I was in full-blown "I am not getting COVID no matter what sans force majeure" mode (I am not) I would probably N95/N99 + top layer surgical mask, goggles, and complete avoidance of all non essential places. There should be zero expectation of community effort anymore. Just have to do the absolute most for yourself, that you're willing to.

Hospitalizations in our region for COVID are going down and we've drawn down ICU units as a result.

For now, things are flattening out.

Here in SE Pennsylvania it's so weird to walk around with a mask on but I'm still gonna do it.

Having a two month old at home and an immunocompromised mother it's easy enough, even if COVID is down just avoiding the flu is important.

Already had 3 friends in the last 2 weeks come down with Covid, but it was so mild they just stayed home and worked for a couple weeks. Ruined game night, though!

Even unvaccinated people will probably start to get much milder illness as their bodies get used to it the hard way. As they walk over the scores of their dead.

Still did not catch COVID despite everyone in the family caught. Using a single layer mask especially indoors and sometimes outdoors (it also helps with the hay fever anyways).

But yeah, at this point I don't expect anyone else to mask up or bitch if they don't. Its basically a personal decision for me that I won't attempt to impose on others.

It also helps that the original L (wuhan) strain that was far and away the most deadly strain doesn't even exist in the general populous anymore, only in labs. It's evolved/mutated itself to non-existence.

Flonase and my leftover washable masks have been a godsend that I honestly feel like an idiot for never using this year on the spring yard cleanup. And pollen season.
