seems like lot of words to say that the vaccine was meant to target the alpha & delta variants, because that's when it was created, and omicron is in many ways a totally different virus so the vaccine is way less effective against it. and with omicron being the dominant strain in the populous this current vaccine is being phased out of relevancy

its why pfizer said months ago they need an omciron specific vaccine, which is expected to come out in the fall

The New England Journal of Medicine: Covid-19 Vaccine Effectiveness against the Omicron (B.1.1.529) Variant

Vaccine effectiveness was lower for the omicron variant than for the delta variant at all intervals after vaccination and for all combinations of primary courses and booster doses investigated. Among those who had received two ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 doses, almost no protective effect of vaccination against symptomatic disease caused by the omicron variant was noted from 20 to 24 weeks after the second dose. Among those who had received two BNT162b2 doses, vaccine effectiveness was 65.5% (95% CI, 63.9 to 67.0) 2 to 4 weeks after the second dose, dropping to 15.4% (95% CI, 14.2 to 16.6) after 15 to 19 weeks and dropping further to 8.8% (95% CI, 7.0 to 10.5) after 25 or more weeks. The vaccine effectiveness of two doses of mRNA-1273 vaccine had a similar reduction over time from 75.1% (95% CI, 70.8 to 78.7) after 2 to 4 weeks to 14.9% (95% CI, 3.9 to 24.7) after 25 or more weeks. Among persons who received ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 as the primary course, from 2 to 4 weeks after a BNT162b2 booster dose, vaccine effectiveness increased to 62.4% (95% CI, 61.8 to 63.0) before waning to 39.6% (95% CI, 38.0 to 41.1) after 10 or more weeks. The mRNA-1273 booster vaccine increased effectiveness to 70.1% (95% CI, 69.5 to 70.7) after 2 to 4 weeks. This waned to 60.9% (95% CI, 59.7 to 62.1) after 5 to 9 weeks. Vaccine effectiveness was lowest among those who received a ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 primary course with a ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 booster vaccine. Waning efficacy was most notable against the omicron variant, for which the vaccine effectiveness was 46.7% (95% CI, 34.3 to 56.7) at 5 to 9 weeks. After an mRNA-1273 primary course, vaccine effectiveness increased to 64.9% (95% CI, 62.3 to 67.3) at 2 to 4 weeks after a BNT162b2 booster and 66.3% (95% CI, 63.7 to 68.8) at 2 to 4 weeks after an mRNA-1273 booster.

I dunno why you seem to be against science here.

After only 2-4 weeks of receiving the shot, any shot, this current vaccines effectiveness against omicron begins dropping drastically. After 2 months it essentially does nothing... here in Ontario you aren't even allowed to get shots that fast.

I want a new vaccine. You should want a new vaccine.

You're also ignoring his other point, which is that elderly people are more susceptible to the virus. And most people are already vaccinated.

Simply stating that 42% of the people dying of the virus are vaccinated is only telling part of the story, and is skewing the truth. Just because a 100 year old man that is vaccinated against COVID dies from COVID does not mean that the vaccine is ineffective. No one said the vaccine is guaranteed to save you from dying, it lowers the risk of dying.

As an extreme example, let's say in a group of 1000 people, 900 get vaccinated. All 1000 people get sick, and 100 of those people die. If 58 of those vaccinated die and 42 of those unvaccinated die, that does not mean that the vaccine is ineffective. Quite the opposite. But some people might look at the 58% number and say that it's proof that the vaccine increases your risk of dying because more vaccinated are dying than unvaccinated.

It's an extreme example, sure, but it bothers me when people throw around flat percentage numbers while ignoring the underlying numbers and circumstances leading up to those percentages.

For preventative purposes 15-30%, which is what we're talking about here, may as well be 0% yes. That is what the entire medical research field will tell you. That is what the people who make the vaccine will tell you.

The "everyone is vaccinated" thing is accurate for the alpha & delta strains. If you got a shot in January/February, the vaccine is still doing it's job against those strains at almost full effectiveness. Which is great. But that isn't the case with omicron at all. Against omicron your shot has run it's course, and you probably can't realistically get enough shots to keep your efficacy high enough to prevent omicron moving forward into the future. You'd essentially need to receive a new shot every month.

Omicron should to be viewed as a totally separate thing than the previous strains. Which it seems like big pharma already is since they've been rushing to break out this new vaccine since December, but the general public doesn't seem to be there yet.

Thats what these antivax clowns do though. Theyre mostly incredibly dumb and dont understand ratios. When ontarios hospitalization numbers got worse for the vaccinated group, they were quick to point out how there were more vaccinated in hospitals vs unvaccinated. What they didnt bother mentioning, probably cause theyre too stupid to realize, was that 85% of Ontario is double or more vaxed at the time. Sure, there may be a couple more vaxed in the hospitals, however the vaxed population outnumbered unvaxed by like 7 to 1. 600 vaxed vs 500 unvaxed isnt showing the vaccines are ineffective when you consider the ratio of vaxed vs unvaxed as a whole.

Grandma never got sick
Maybe it was just a very brutal stomach flu/food poisoning or they were passed the contagious phase if it was covid.
