the whole thing is ignorant of how literally every hiring process works in the world from the get-go.

every company has a preferred candidate they want to hire before they've even meet anyone based on resumes and references. it's up to the interviewees to change the companies mind during the interview process. that's the whole point of the interview

I think that's still the issue. The preferred candidates are white. Black candidates have to work harder during the interview. Fewer opportunities at lower level coaching positions means fewer opportunities at coordinator positions which means fewer HC opportunities.

I wonder what the minority breakdown is among assistants and if the issue is just at the top of the chain or if it's more systemic. Because you'd think that a league with 70% black players would have more than 1 head coach.

Heard it on the radio earlier today. Something like 8 ST coordinators, 4 OC, and I can’t remember how many DCs off the top of my head but I wanna say it was more than both of those. 12 maybe?

    Too lazy to double check.

the thing is though that head coach isn't the top position in the nfl, general manager is. and there are 7 black gms in the nfl atm*. thats almost a quarter of the gms in the league that are doing the head coaching hiring process. they're the dudes that are interviewing these coaches and all of those black gms have white head coaches

also the rooney rule is about hiring minorities and women not just blacks, so the lawsuit is ignoring the 3 other minority head coaches

The TE coach of the Niners was the assistant head coach and he was let go.

Isn’t the assistant head coach just a title/backup role and not an actual job position? Kind of like godparents?

most teams have some kind of assistant head coach for emergency reasons. some teams have their coordinators doubling the role. other teams it's a lone position. it depends if the owner doesn't give a shit about money or not

jerrys been paying a separate assistant hc role since forever 'cause fuck it why not

Hue Jackson is now backtracking, saying he was never paid to lose games. This comes after saying the opposite and tweeting “the number was good” in relation to how much he was paid:

i'd wager his lawyer updated him that the nfl can sue him for defamation if his claims about bribery can't be proven

being asked to lose games is a nothing burger. being bribed to lose games is illegal. shits vastly different

well hes still saying he was asked to lose games, so he hasn't walked it back completely. he's just reneging on the part that involves going against the sports bribery act... which if it ever went to court would involve going through his bank records to see if he took the bribes or not too. and since owners can give coaches all kinds of undisclosed bonuses for a million different reasons that sounds like a can of worms i wouldn't want to open
