The GB/GBC Zelda vibes it gave me with its movement physics and sprite/tile scaling was enough to sell me.

It's out now, and you need to play it.

It's fucking good. Top-rated game on Opencritic and Metacritic.

It's Zelda GBC x Elden Ring x Castlevania, and it was made by Yacht Club games (the makers of Shovel Knight - so you know it's good).

Do yourself a favor and pick this up for $20. Just do it.

Yeah, this has been on my wishlist for a long time. I bought it last night but won't be able to play it until tonight or tomorrow.

Being a huge fan of Links Awakening ever since I was a little kid, and Bloodborne being one of my top favorite games, I loved the aesthetic right away.

Been playing it myself since it was only $20, but started from scratch again instead of importing my demo save since I wanted to do something first.

Which was beating the Kraken at the start. Took a few tries.

I will say, this game really likes to play around with the lightbar colour on PS4/PS5 controllers, even on PC.

Mina the Hollower - Legend of Zelda-Like Action/Adventure

Just finished it after about a week of playing. Great little game, hits the nostalgia itch very well with clever use of modern mechanics. One thing it captures quite well to me is the wtfbullshit of certain old school NES levels that were extremely difficult, but differs in that those were often due to poor game design and these are due to great level/fight design that is enragingly engaging.

There’s a couple of difficulty spikes along the way, especially if you don’t explore, and the one near the end is the most noticeable.

Overall, great candidate for game of the year in my view, in a year where there are likely to be solid contenders for the title. Certainly the best game I have played so far this year.

    9.5/10 this game fucking slaps

Lol. I'm guessing that's in Septemburg?

I just got done with my second area (Crypt and Sand) and am loving the game so far. I ended up fighting an optional boss in Ossex that was pretty hard. Not sure if I was supposed to do that yet lol, cause it was taking like a 1/3 of my health with each hit. After like 10+ deaths I killed it, though.

I was working on Nox's Swamp when I got side tracked with the

    area.

yeah this is in Septemberg, something funny happens just before that

I do like that the game is pretty open in how you complete areas, i did crypt and bayou first before coming here. it did take me forever to figure out how to find the second area though, but I might be an idiot

i think I know what optional “boss” you’re talking about in ossex and yeah he hit hard as shit

    re your spoiler:
    Spoiler: show
i only just now figured out how mirrors work and needed to go back and get previous ones

anyway game is absolutely delightful so far

I just really wish the game had a better map, unless there is one and I haven't discovered it yet.
    Spoiler: show
Just the one in my underground base which is utterly useless to me. On that note, I was annoyed to find Rhene 8hrs into the game since I didn't double-back to older areas to check for key'd off sections until then. Would have loved that subweapon-preserve upgrade hours prior.

I do wonder where the difficulty complaints I heard of are coming from. I'm 10hrs in, and outside of some areas earlier in the game that clearly stomp your shit in for approaching it early, the most I've died to are falling into pits because they chunk your health for some reason.

That said, despite enjoying it, I can't stand more than 2hrs of it in one go since the gameplay is pretty constant once you're out and doing business with the exploring.

Yeah, I think you said in spam that it was goty, and I have to agree so far. I plan on playing Saros next. I'm sure I'll love it since I loved Returnal, but I don't see it beating this.

@Madeline: And yeah, I'm the same. I'm digging all over and hitting (non-obvious) spots in the wall that seem like they might lead somewhere.

Oh, on the optional boss, is it the one across the big gap to the right of the manor?

that is as much map as you’re going to get. Early game stomps your shit. Grinding will fix that if you are so inclined. Late game will have another stomp your shit spike as well as some areas if you don’t get the right trinkets.

Falling sucks balls because it takes one notch of health, always.
