    Gonna be honest, that ride mechanic looks kinda dumb >.>;

Terastal looks like a cross between dynamax and mega evolution -- the effects sound closer to mega, but every Pokemon can do it, like dynamax.

    Just the trailer:

Outside of the transformations and legendaries apparently joining you early on, I think I like everything else I saw.

    Spoiler: show

    Also:
There are 18 types, meaning there are countless combinations of Pokémon and Tera Types.

Terastallizing a Pokémon allows you to enhance your battle strategies by increasing the power of any moves that have the same type as your Pokémon’s Tera Type or by changing your Pokémon’s weaknesses.
I can see this sucking for competitive..

Yeah, legendaries seemingly have to join you early, but also, doesn't this mean you can't trade them..?

I was ready to hate the gimmick this gen, but I guess competitively it could lead to some interesting stuff.

Riding the legendaries looks really silly, and yeah, I wonder how early you're getting them if they are showing it off that much in the trailer.

If they're replacing bikes, I'm guessing pretty damn early

About trading the legendaries - this might be like Arceus where "mounts" are separate from pokemons you catch and use, so you get the mount early but not the Pokémon to use in your party

I've had some more time to think about it, and I don't think terastalling (such a stupid name) is as intriguing as I initially thought. Based on the description on the website:

First, each Pokémon has a Tera Type. A Pokémon's Tera Type is inactive until the Pokémon Terastallizes, at which time the Pokémon's type will change to its Tera Type.

Terastallizing a Pokémon allows you to enhance your battle strategies by increasing the power of any moves that have the same type as your Pokémon’s Tera Type or by changing your Pokémon’s weaknesses.
So you're basically replacing your STAB moves and strengths and weaknesses. But if you're still confined to the same move pool, it's not nearly as big a deal. For instance, let's say you could make a Charizard water type. So what? It's not like it learns any water moves, so it's not going to benefit from STAB. And it loses both fire and water typings for those moves. AND, it can't even take advantage of solar power in the sun because your water moves will do less. I'm sure there will be some interesting combos based on abilities, but is sounds like a downgrade for any dual-types, and possibly something you might not want to use on your strongest pokemon (from a competitive standpoint).

    Spoiler: show
But also, it's probably going to make something like Eleki even more broken~

As a mostly unrelated thought, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but in gen 6/7, you wouldn't lose your mega evolution if you swapped the pokemon, right? Curious if that will be the same with terastalling. If so, you're not as locked in as with dynamax, which is nice -- although still think dynamax is the superior system though..

They're doing a distribution in Sw/Sh of Ash's current team over the next few weeks (except for Pikachu which I think is tied to seeing a movie in Japan). Figure this thread is going to be general Pokemon news for the next three years, so will post the codes here as they become available.

According to Serebii, the schedule is:
    Dracovish - August 12th
    Dragonite - August 26th
    Gengar - September 2nd
    Sirfetch'd - September 9th
    Lucario - September 16th

That schedule is most definitely to run in tandem with the semi-finals and finals of the Masters 8 Tournament.

JN121 The Climax Begins! Satoshi's Masters Tournament Experience!! August 12, 2022
    JN122 The Semifinals I: "Overwhelming Victory" August 26, 2022
JN123 The Semifinals II: "Dazzle" September 2, 2022
JN124 The Semifinals III: "Valor" September 9, 2022

One more week of Koharu filler before they direct attention back to the main event. Here's the current bracket.

    Spoiler: show

It's been decent combat, except for Leon vs Alain, who got dunked on for plot. Every match has received a full episode. Ash vs Cynthia is super hype though!

    I didn't listen to your advice and started at the beginning, so I've only just started Johto <.<;

Yikes. yeah. There's a 90s sorta silliness to some of the earlier seasons, but you've seen the formula now. They don't break it for about 20 years, and it gets real stale.

May behoove you to look up major event episodes and skip all the garbage in between. Season premieres/finales, major captures, evolutions, gym battles, conference tourneys -- til you finish X/Y. It starts getting good at Alola.

Honestly, skip most of it. Watch episodes where Ash catches a pokemon, evolves a pokemon, wins a gym badge or fights in one of the tournaments.

Alola is great. Rowlet is MVP character. And the Ash vs Kukui 4-episode finale is fucking top tier. Of course watch with JP dub and Eng subs though, the Eng dub has shit music that takes away all the hype. The episodes where Brock/Misty are involved are fantastic (like when the class goes to Kanto to visit. Fantastic animation for the battles). And some really surprisingly awesome episodes like the one where they play baseball lol

There used to be this video on youtube that went over how awesome the new animation style is when they switched it in Sun and Moon. And highlighted a bunch of great episodes. But sadly I think it got copyrighted and taken down

And then yeah, for Pokemon Journeys (the current series), just watch the Ash-centric stuff. Gou is boring (also, fucking lame he's caught like 2 or 3 legendaries), Koharu stuff ain't bad though, a bit more on the sentimental side.

I don’t think I’ve seen an episode of Pokémon since Johto, but I really feel they’ve missed the mark by not progressing the story/characters. I think the show would be way so much cooler if Ash/Satoshi served the same role in the show as Red does in the games.

But yeah, ive seen some of the sun and moon animation on twitter and ill admit that show looks absolute gorgeous.
