What in the absolute shitting fuck? Family should absolutely not be on the hook for medical bills when the state values her more as a birthing chamber than as a human being with dignity. In the first place, it was the hospital's fuckup that kicked this entire mess off. And that's not even getting into the fact that at the other side of this there's going to be a baby that the government sure isn't going to give a shit about. So either the family raises it, at even further and astronomical personal expense, or they send another unfortunate child off to slip between the cracks of "The System". This entire situation is completely fucked, and now I'm mad about it.

There's a new growing movement in MAHA: fertility awareness, which existed previously but is being hijacked. Basically telling women that contraceptives (male/female) are poison and implies women are too dumb to avoid pregnancy on their own. It's about to be a lot of oopsie babies coming in the future.

I don't think anti-procreation has to be tied to anti-sex or involuntary celibacy.

I actually think it's 100% correct to say no one consents to being born. We just have to deal with it. Life can suck sometimes and we didn't agree to the ride.

Of course you can't get consent from something that doesn't exist and for most people they enjoy being alive. But there are decent portion of us that, if they had the opportunity, would choose to Butterfly Effect themselves out of existence. Suicide is distinct from never existing, but consider how many of those who commit suicide are basically saying exactly this.

I think this resonates for people from non-white cultures especially because whenever our parents were unhappy with us, our parents throw "You wouldn't even exist if not for us" when it was THEIR choice to bring us into the world and not ours. Throwing "I never asked to be born and would rather not have been" back in their face was one of the most freeing things in my life.

There was a lawsuit a couple years ago where someone tried to sue their parents for "Wrongful life" based off the tenets of a wrongful death lawsuit. The premise was since his parents made the choice to bring him into the world they should be legally obligated for certain duties. He lost because the court ruled that this is already covered under a parent's legal obligations until a person is an adult, then the parent is freed of obligation. (And that someone who no longer wants to exist can just kill themselves rather than demand a certain standard of living)
