hader is under contract next year too so it’s not like they needed to do this immediately

Basically this - they got a good (as far as high-A pitchers can be good) prospect, the Padres current solid closer, and a couple reclamation projects. Basically they didn't want to sign Hader to a long term deal because they are Milwaukee and paying top-dollar for relievers is big-market shit.

but also Hader is an all-time great reliever, looking at his ERA this season is clowntown. Dude literally has the highest K/9 of any pitcher in history and is top-10 in ERA for any pitcher since WW2.

Worth pointing out Taylor Rodgers has been pretty bad lately and I'd expect Devin Williams to do most of the closing unless he really shits the bed. Even Boxberger is a decent option.

Yeah I wonder if they'll move Devin to closer and Taylor to setup - Taylor's ERA is Hadersian but his K/9 and BB/9 and FIP are good so hopefully it'll even out.

JP Sears, left-handed pitching prospect Ken Waldichuk, infield prospect Cooper Bowman and right-handed pitching prospect Luis Medina.

sears has pitched well in a couple spot starts this year (and some bullpen work). he’s young but has at least shown he has major league ability. he will probably be on their roster immediately is my guess

waldichuk has been great in the minors and is the best prospect in the deal

the other guys are pure prospects
