Crazy how it's already been 6 years since KH3... and 20 since KH2.

The gaps are kinda insane, from 3 years to 14 years and now who knows how long till 4.

The fans? It sold 5million copies in the first week and is the best selling game in the franchise

The third game sold well on release yes, but did anyone actually enjoy it? I've really only ever heard just universal disappointment about the game and it's nonsensical story

Definitely a downer after the long wait. It wasn't awful or anything but was nowhere as awesome as 1 and 2

But companies go by sales and not by "did anyone enjoy it?" metric.

The fact that the game's sales dried up almost immediately after release would maybe be an indication.

But SE isn't exactly well known for their ability to "read the room" so they very likely just see "best selling game in the franchise" and repeat what they think works. With more belts obviously

I think all that indicates is that it has a very niche fanbase who all bought it right away and doesn't expand much beyond that

And guess what? Kh4 will probably sell a lot too so I don't think SE is the one failing to read the room here

I played it only cause it was assumed to be the conclusion to a story I was struggling to follow for almost two decades, and I enjoy the Disney cameos. The gameplay was the best of the series, but the plot has lost it. I played it on game pass and would def never buy another KH.

I think the disney attack things, forgot the name, ruined the gameplay a bit lol.

    KH2 still best gameplay

I loved KH3, but I'm also a diehard fan. That being said, it was far from perfect. The attraction rides are what I think you're referring to Tyrath, and they smartly added the option of turning them off with an update shortly after release.

Gameplay on pride mode was still super easy, and the lack of FF characters was also a dumb choice. The keyblade transformations was a somewhat enjoyable gimmick, but I would have preferred more keyblades that had like, 1 transformation each, rather then the few we got that all had 2 tiers of transformations. Oh and hyping up Kairi to be not the damsel in distress and then just making her a damsel in distress anyway was stupid lol. But at least in the DLC they made her gameplay badass

But it wrapped up The Aqua/Terra/Ven story and the Roxas/Axel/Xion story too, which I really liked. And the gameplay was smooth and fluid as fuck. I really should beat it on critical, now that I think about it.

Game was a lot more enjoyable for people who played BBS, CoM, 358/2, DDD, which were all non-console side games, so yeah, I can easily see people who only played the mainline games not liking it as much and being confused as fuck by the story

Edit: As far as the plot goes, it did wrap up the story of all the shit that was built up in the mainline and side games, aka the Xehanort plot. KH4 should in theory be a pretty fresh start for the story... but again, this is a Tetsuya Nomura game lol

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I played before this was added or I missed that it was an option, idk. I feel like it would've improved my experience so much

Yeah it was a major quality of life changer. Those fucking teacups man. There are I think 2 scripted moments with the roller coaster that you have to do, but that's it

I would have enjoyed it more if it had actual base difficulty that wasn't press X to win. Like, you had to actively try to die in 3.

The absence of the FF characters and minimizing the Disney characters is what turned me off in 3. I played KH BECAUSE I want familiar FF characters chopping it up with Winnie The Pooh and shit, not the Nomura originals bullshit that absolutely dominated the game which I did not understand nor care about.

Oh yeah, how could I forget, the lack of FF characters was my biggest gripe with the game. Their BS about "we dont need them anymore to pull fans in" was so dumb. That was part of the allure

Yeah, that's what really rubbed me the wrong way. Even the Disney worlds were lame as hell in 3 and didn't really add anything. I just expected WAY more considering how long it was in development.

You've gone too far. Toy Story was worth all the Nomura bullshit.

I was going to say, I really enjoyed the toy story world. And I liked being Captain Sora Sparrow. Everything else is forgotable though considering I forgot all about it LOL

At least it wasn't endless cutscenes of eating sea salt ice cream on the clock tower.

James Woods says he was in studio just a couple weeks ago recording new lines for Hades. He doesn't outright say it was for KH4 but seemingly the entirety of the internet is wishing it so.
