Edit: Also forgot about Dallas/Calgary, lol. So it's really only like half the teams in the first round missing goalies.

The Dallas Stars are of the worst teams to make the playoffs in an 82 game season in recent memory. The last team to qualify for a normal postseason with a negative goal differential was Ottawa in 2017. This will be an epic choke by the Flames if they can't come back to win the series.

Once again, as I said in the regular season, this is why I'm not getting hyped or excited about this team. Team has had plenty of great regular seasons but have only gotten past the 1st round 3 times since 1988. So yeah, new post season, same ole' Flames

I was honestly nervous about the Flames this season.
Markstrom being the big goalie, 4 35-goal scorers plus picking up Toffoli for even more. Blake Coleman for some extra size to go with Milan Lucic who somehow isn't Gandhi in a sloth's body out there.
The series is only 2-1 and within reach, but at no point have I felt like "Wow, Dallas is outclassed big time here"

Now this summer Gaudreau is gonna sign with Philly or NJ as UFA, but ya gotta give big money to Tkachuk, Mangiapane and probably Kyllington as RFA. Or bridge them and delay things by a couple years

Also, what happened with Monahan? Was he hit by a bus and replaced by Patrik Stefan in a 23 jersey? That's been a regression like "Hey Cheechoo, you're not with Joe Thornton anymore. GL!"

Monahan has suffered from "being a tough hockey guy who plays through injury" at the detriment of his own well being and longevity. For the last few seasons, he always starts really strong, looks really good, puts up good numbers, and by the end of the season he's a ghost on the ice, and the reason being that he's playing through multiple injuries that end up requiring him having multiple off-season surgeries. And yeah, that just caught up to him.

Given how battered and broken his body has become, and how he just had another hip surgery on the opposite side of the hip surgery he had last season, I hate to say it but his career is probably not gonna rebound and he's most likely going to be just getting progressively worse and worse until he's not in the league anymore. I could see him being bought out if no one wants him on the trade market.

Chucky has a qualifying offer for like $9mil so the Flames will take that and get his long term contract done next season. Johnny and his family have expressed wanting to stay with Calgary, and Calgary management have stated that they're going to re-sign him no problem. But again, if the team fizzles out with another first round exit, how many times can you keep trying with the same core? Kylington is getting re-signed and Mang is probably gone.
