2022 NHL Playoff Thread - Where 107 points net you a Wild Card spot

Looking at this series, realistically it's not like Dallas has curbstomped Calgary. Each game has been a 1-goal game (minus the empty netters Dallas got this and last game). Calgary's defence and goaltending has been solid. The 3 non EN goals Dallas has scored, 2 were beautiful, unstoppable tips, and the 3rd was a puck that was shot from far, tipped on the way and was a lucky bounce onto Pavelski's stick facing an open net. All goals you can't blame Markstrom on, but could argue the defencemen could have had better coverage.

This last game, Calgary had over 40 shots. To Dallas' credit, they have had rock solid defence that has stymied Calgary's offence thus far. Just clogged things up in front of their own net to the point that Calgary has had minimal high danger chances. Do I think the series is over? Nah, not yet. But it's not great when the 1st line and the 4th line are the only 2 that are making shit happen offensively and building momentum.

Calgary's biggest problem so far is that they're letting Dallas slow down and clog the game up, whereas all of Calgary's success this year has been playing with speed and tempo, a hard forecheck, playing like they're literally playing and skating through the other team. Passes have been off, that usual crispness and forecheck that causes the other team to make mistakes has been lacking, and they aren't getting enough bodies in front of Dallas' goalie, who admittedly has been fucking fantastic.

Also holy fuck all the penalties. In game 2 and game 3 combined, there were like 9 or 10 coincidental penalties. The refs have just been absolutely abhorrent in letting either team just create momentum and play 5 on 5. And for stupid after the whistle shit that would have been ignored in the regular season too. I mean, I get calling actual penalties and sending a guy here and there. But waaaay too many little scrums where they just send 2 guys to the box for 2 minutes each that just fucks up any tempo the game has.

I was honestly nervous about the Flames this season.
Markstrom being the big goalie, 4 35-goal scorers plus picking up Toffoli for even more. Blake Coleman for some extra size to go with Milan Lucic who somehow isn't Gandhi in a sloth's body out there.
The series is only 2-1 and within reach, but at no point have I felt like "Wow, Dallas is outclassed big time here"

Now this summer Gaudreau is gonna sign with Philly or NJ as UFA, but ya gotta give big money to Tkachuk, Mangiapane and probably Kyllington as RFA. Or bridge them and delay things by a couple years

Also, what happened with Monahan? Was he hit by a bus and replaced by Patrik Stefan in a 23 jersey? That's been a regression like "Hey Cheechoo, you're not with Joe Thornton anymore. GL!"

Ive heard people say Gaudreau to Philly and Kadri to Philly....why would anyone sign there? Chuck Fletcher has proved time and again hes a terrible GM and his teams suck balls

Everyone dumping on Gaudreau should be looking at Tkachuk too. He's so hilariously zoned in on John Klingberg, it's shades of the Muzzin obsession after the puck flip.

Having said that, I saw a stat today that says of the 350 players that have played at least 200 minutes of 5v5 playoff hockey since 2017, Johhny Gaudreau is fifth last in 5v5 points, with 2 (TWO!). The four players worse than him are all defensemen.

Outside of the fight in the first period, there wasn't anything that happened between Chucky and Klingberg.

And yeah can't really say much about that stat for Johnny. Of our 3 goals so far this post season, he's assisted on 2 of them, so it's not like he's not performing.

Again, credit Dallas' D. They are giving Calgary nothing and really restricting the shit they do on offense. And Calgary has yet to really make any major adjustments

Technically he threw his stick before the puck went in, so it'd be a delayed penalty as Boston had possession, and since they scored on the delayed penalty, the penalty was annulled? Is my best guess

Also, 30 seconds left and the stick didn't hit anyone so the refs probably wanted to beat the rush hour traffic
