If you're on Belabog, you should be getting a copy of Natasha soon, she's a healer (Abundance). Can't use items in-combat.
There are, generally, two types of "sustain" characters, Healers (often Abundance) and Shielders (often Preservation). Some of the healers you may have access to currently are Natasha, Bailu, Lynx, or Gallagher. Some of the shielders you might have at that point are March 7th (not great though) or Gepard. Clara can be kind of a pseudo-sustain if you have her because she draws aggro and reduces the damage she takes.
If you can post your current roster we can probably give you more information. If you're unfamiliar with how gacha games work in terms of pulling for characters or weapons we can probably explain that too.
I'm fairly familiar with Gacha games, but first like this.
Besides protag, March, and Dan Heng, I have the following people.
Hook
Herta
Serval
Jingliu
Asta
Gallagher
Qingque

Gallagher, when built properly, is a great healer, even as a 4-star he has a place on a number of teams
So at some point in Belabog I'm pretty sure you get Natasha, who is a healer (although not a great one). I would probably take the Golden Companion Spirit you get from the Anniversary events this patch (if you haven't already spent it on someone else) and spend it on getting Huo Huo from the character shop. Her healing will be more than enough for you for quite a while and she's still very useful despite being quite old because her Ultimate gives Energy to everyone on your team. If Permansor Terrae Dan Heng is still available for free in the Events (I don't think so, but worth checking), you should grab him too as he's a very good shielder.
Relic builds won't be very important for a while, I would just pick a team (Jingliu, Huo Huo, Asta, Herta will probably work well enough for now) and keep them levelled as high as you can get them, and keep their talents levelled as high as you can (with the important ones being Jingliu and Huo Huo). Once you get to Trailblaze Level 45ish you can farm some decent Relics.
I probably wouldn't pull on these current banners unless one of the characters really appeals to you.
Good advice here.
Also if nothing else, stick out playing it until the joy of Slumbernana university for. . reasons.
So I drew Silver Wolf Lvl999, but confused about that aha moment that seems to trigger pro gamer move. 90% of the time when it comes up, it does 0 damage, so not sure what I'm missing with her for that.
Right now she's my only source of imagination damage, so feeling almost gimped having to carry her.

I believe her Elation skill damage is heavily dependent on how many Punchlines you have when the Aha Moment happens. If she's your only Elation character, you'll probably want to pair her with the Elation MC to help her generate more punchlines. I think you can unlock that path for the MC early without having actually done any of Planarcadia?
Edit: A decent team you can probably run is Elation MC Asta Huo Huo SW999. If you can't get Huo Huo from the golden spirit shop, any other healer or shield can work there, albeit less effectively.
Got it, thank you

I should also add, you don't necessarily need to worry all that much about elemental damage coverage. Teammate synergy matters a lot more than having different elements of damage on one team. They're likely to rerun one of SW999's best teammates next patch (Yao Guang), so if she's not appealing to you right now and you have another team setup that's working for you, you can just keep rolling with that.
I have Sparxie and Yao Guang set as supports for any content where you can use a support character, UID is 603393549 feel free to add
It may be my caveman brain but everytime I come back to this game I feel like character kits and skills just get harder and harder to read and understand. The complexity creep is getting me
They do have a "brief description" mode in the Traces screen now that makes things a bit clearer. But yes, they are absolutely getting wordier, and the game does a poor job in general of explaining Elation mechanics.
Really wonder how Rin is going to end up playing, and whether she can pull Therta out of the basement.
I hope they make him as over the top as possible in his story interactions.
Good luck Mortenax wanters
