I'm turbo triggered that this is hitting Xbox before FF7R is.

A 20-hour game that had it's combat revised (hard mode recommended to take full advantage of the improvements), but didn't get the full treatment VIIR got. Story still lacks pacing, areas still "feel" small, & visuals aren't as crisp as VIIR. PC players will also notice that visual options menu lacks choices. On the plus side, the music and voice-acting is great, although the script hinders it some along with the audio sometimes adding pauses mid-sentence.
I put on the JP Reunion Trailer; there's some lines I've memorised in my head in JP because the theme song back in the PSP days was also a full length song trailer and I occasionally listen to it as it has the voices, sound effects and such.
For Reno, due to his VA (JP) passing away, it looks like they straight up reused the lines, which is natural and mostly expected. For the other lines, they mostly sound redone as the tone and pace is different to what I know in the PSP Trailer. It also looks like some script/wording got slightly rearranged too which is great.
I'm glad they kept the song, I quite like it, it's sombre to me. Some described it as upbeat which I fail to see, but I suppose it depends on the context it was heard in.
EDIT: Shame on SE not redoing (remastering and also doing an english dub) of The Last Order
EDIT2: I FOUND AN ENG FAN DUB LOL IT'S QUITE GOOD WATCHING IT SHORTLY
Right before they announced the remaster I was actually about to buy it on PSP for the story.
Timing couldn't be better, I guess this'll be a day 1 for me.
Yesterday I found it up for sale in a Saturn electronics store in Germany and was like “wasn’t the release date supposed to be 13th?”
Grabbed a copy, they either broke the release date or just don’t care lol
Indeed, was a pleasant surprise on a sick day
Here are my first impressions of the Switch version (played for about an hour)
Performance-wise there are some frame decreases every now and then but they are no way bothersome. the game runs just fine. It is obvious that they've put special efforts on remastering to make the game look good on current/next gen but the style feels inevitably a bit dated. It is a phenomenal remaster, probably the best I've seen but it is a remaster after all, not a remake. Prepare yourself for this and you'll be content.
IGN review says that with the Unreal 4 engine the graphics are in close parity with FF7R, maybe that's the case for the PS5 version.
First hour had way too many random battles, not sure if this is specific to the infiltration mission or not.
Battle system is quite fluid and fun.
did they nix the slots
They're kinda improved though, e.g. they don't do the whole cover the screen thingy if you get a limit break you choose when to use it instead of it going off automatically
Please tell me the cutscenes are skippable this time around. That was the most ass-baffling omission in the original game despite its NG+ incentives. Maybe also make the summons a bit more common? I only ever had it go off twice on my first playthrough of the original, even though they're just glorified FMVs being played.
About what I was expecting since it had to support the Switch, helped by having smaller environments since it was originally a PSP game. Long as it's not fricken 70gb+ again on Sony's platforms.IGN review says that with the Unreal 4 engine the graphics are in close parity with FF7R, maybe that's the case for the PS5 version.
Further comments after about 2-3 hours into the game..
I remember buying crisis core for PSP but getting bored rather quick, I am about 15 years older now but whatever improvements they've done the first 3 hours had been a breeze. Battle system is rock solid, can get repetitive against weaker monsters but shines against stronger ones.
Mission system complements perfectly to Switch. And yeah the game looks and runs very good on Switch standards.
Dialogue and voice acting may be a bit cheesy but the story is solid. Seeing Turks and other villains from a different point of view is great(still super pissed on them removing Elena from the Remake)
Unless next gen versions are looking and playing somehow much better than the Switch version, Switch is the platform you should buy the game for especially if portability is something you care for. For me it outweighs whatever compromises they've made (some frame drops every now and then, 30 fps instead of 60). Mind you I haven't played it for the next gen, but have absolutely zero technical complaints on Switch.
They're going to rewrite history and it's gonna be Cissnei.
The voice acting is so fucking cringe
