I played Dead Space quite recently and I did not have any issues at all. Never knew it was problematic

ye Dead Space ran 100% fine for me as well and plenty of PC joints have been beautifully optimized, including a ton of Capcom stuff like Street Fighter 6 and Monster Hunter World and all the recent Resident Evils and Devil May Cry. bummer this is the fly in the ointment of their otherwise damn fine PC record but imagine opening up the world is always going to be a lot more challenging. hopefully they can patch out the worst of it asap.
also performance aside a clear GOTY contender

I'm assuming this runs off the RE Engine, which generally scales beautifully so hopefully the CPU bound performance is a hiccup.
I wouldn't say I'm excusing it, nor does it seem reviewers are. They're saying it's great in spite of the issues, as opposed to so many reviews these last few years which just completely ignore shitty performance (like Jedi Survivor)
It's supposed to have DLSS3 so there's that I guess
Apparently the dll file for DLSS frame gen is in the games folder but can't be turned on in game.
Probably a last minute addition they forgot to enable. RE engine games in the past haven't had DLSS at launch and was always added later. I think they got a lot of flack for it with RE4 since the TAA in that game was so bad and FSR was poorly implemented.
Even early on the performance drop as the number of NPCs in the area goes up is very noticeable.
Playing with 120 fps cap and it's basically rock solid in the wilderness, but as soon as I get anywhere near the initial outpost it drops to around 90 before even getting any extra characters on screen.
That said, already early on it's definitely hitting the right notes. It's more Dragons Dogma now with shinier graphics
Is it fine to start with DD2? I technically played DD1 when it came out, but it was so long ago that I don't really remember anything about the story. Devs say it's fine, but they wouldn't say otherwise, since they want sales, sooooo.
i never played 1 and have no intention of doing so and so have no frame of reference and my words have no value to this query but yes, yes i think it's fine
As far as I can tell from the first 3-ish hours and am aware there's no storyline connection between the two.
Spoiler: show
hehehehehehehe
There's definitely some questionable choices. The micro-transactions who gives a shit, just ignore them (see : Devil May Cry 5), but the one save file was a dumb choice in the original game and it's a dumb choice again. You can't even choose to start over from the main menu like you could in the first game, you have to go into the actual game folder and delete the files.
At least they removed the silly min-maxing from the original game where your stat boosts were tied to whatever vocation you were using when you leveled up, so you can freely switch between classes without worrying about fucking up your character down the line.
Uhhhh... got my all dude pawn group, walking around and one of em goes "It appears our group is all men! Might our Arisen have a preference?"
There's already a mod available to enable DLSS FG
It's getting review bombed for the surprise microtransactions
Honestly don't care at all about the microtransactions. Would be better if they weren't there but just like the first game it's all available from the Rift Crystal shop in game. If some dad with 35 jobs and 42 kids wants to skip 10 minutes farming 500 rift crystals for 99 cents whatever.
It ain't about how predatory they are or whatever; its about the bait-and-switch. It always is. Games that hide MTX until launch always get pilloried. It ain't going out of style anytime soon.
I mean if someone was actually stupid enough not to see the writing on the wall then they deserve to be disappointed. DD1 had this, Resident Evil had this, Monster Hunter had this, DMC had this, etc etc. Announcing that DD2 would have the same shit ahead of time wouldn't have made it any better, this is what Capcom has been doing for a decade. Either get over it or stop buying Capcom games.
