Protests for me, not for thee
Fine, don't protest outside their homes like any other elected official. Just vandalize their homes instead. Put a lid on the hot pot and watch it boil over.
History is full of people saying "sure it looks bad but it can't get THAT BAD" and they never seem to be reading the room when the other side is fervently telling them at every opportunity that they WANT it to get that bad.
Right-wing white nationalist terrorism is the most prevalent and prolific form of terrorism in the country right now. Armed militia groups are at all-time highs in terms of membershi0p and political influence. An alarming number of law enforcement around the country have direct ties to them, and they actively recruit former-duty military/active-duty cops. And I don't know how much time you spend in right-wing and far-right online circles, but I'm there a lot and there is not a single person out there unconvinced of the need to drive out liberals by any means necessary.
The idea that armed supporters would clash with protestors and lead to an excuse to declare a state of emergency was, you might remember, exactly what Trump was counting on during 1/6 and was pissed when the counter-protestors never appeared.
It would be great if this was all hyperbolic instead of the reality on the ground, but when you're Jewish you can't take a chance on that.
Literally the same people saying surely Trump wouldn't get elected are saying surely this would never happen.
Y'all motherfuckers need Marx.
At any rate, you are either watching too many 60 Minutes, MSNBC, and other bullshit liberal media specials on right-wing militias or simply feeding your own fears. The super majority of police have always been conservative, and that same super majority voted for Trump, and would again. Comparing my dismissal of your assertions to being the sort that enabled Mussolini to power is beyond moronic.
It is not that they aren't a threat. They sure are, but we already watched the embarrassing attempt at a coup on Jan 6th, and these morons, militia, off duty cops, retirees, and Q Anon lunatics couldn't even get that right. They made the Bastille, Winter Palace, or even the Boston fucking Tea Party look like master strokes and impossibilities compared to their pastey lard asses pretending spec ops an intentionally weakened police force. With its backup withheld by the president attempting to overthrow the government. So yeah, regardless of my assessment there being accurate or not. You are blowing it vastly out of proportion. Those boys in the hills of Idaho aren't coming for your election. They probably don't even vote because they don't trust the government.
The supreme court is going to reaffirm an obvious right of the states from the founding of the Constitution, and you are fretting over some bullshit twitter post, and crying "ITS LIKE THE FASCISTS!"
Yeah man, I can't think of a single other time in history fascists attempted a coup and it went badly and then they came back a couple years later and did it right.
You don't need to watch any news my guy, simply spend any time at all on very publicly available Facebook groups or social media to see what these people are saying and planning right in the open. What the fuck are YOU watching that you don't think in the event protestors took to the streets after their votes were invalidated by state legislatures there wouldn't be dozens of Kyle Rittenhouses waiting for them? They don't even have to be organized, there doesn't need to be some mass conspiracy. We're way beyond that now.
Look, I really hope you're right and it's all blown out of proportion, but regardless the GOP is going to establish themselves as having permanent control of the Presidency pretty soon, you predict what will happen from there.
Dozens of 17 year olds with guns being fought by people with skateboards? OH LAWDY!
As someone who also reads social media. I can't say that I take more than their anger and frustration seriously. They talk this way about their neighbors, employers, family, etc. It is scarey realizing how people actually think sometimes. Be glad then that I just say it outloud![]()
Casual observation of my usual net haunts has led me to feel the Big Lie has worked and the right-wing crazy is more emboldened than ever. Recent SC very-much-not-incrementalism has just dialed it up further. Give them an electric boogaloo of J6 and I very much expect violence as finally "they" are heard and "the evil left" can be purged now that "they" have been vindicated by yet more lies and manipulations of the system. Do I think it would be widespread? Unlikely. However, it will make things like current mass shootings or driving cars into protestors (let's not forget "they" encourage this) look modest where it does happen.
It's fun to poke at the Meal Team Six sorts and just call them idiot LARPers, but those also aren't the cops or military folks conditioned into conservative philosophies with the impetus to violently defend them. At best, they're the cannon fodder the likes of Trump and such could easily manipulate. Z isn't wrong to remind that a significant majority of domestic terrorism is RW. The fact they get caught, fuck up, or not do enough damage should not detract from the reality they still try. Now we've LGBT+ events/havens being attacked. Same is likely true for abortion clinics/staff. We can't pretend the cops ever stopped being state-sponsored murders after 2020 and the continuation of savage deaths overreaction to protests. Flynn pleading the 5th about overturning an election? That should be worrying when it comes to military inclination.
I'll save my facepalming for when this corrupted SC makes the improper ruling we otherwise expect them to, but far as reading the proverbial tea leaves go, I think the days of expecting the right, in their current form, to be gracious losers is long gone.
I have no doubt these right wing cunts will try again, they always do. There are a big differences between then Weimar and now US though. This can potentially change though in the near future if the macro situation and global economic woes coupled with inflation and rising interest rates cause 20 years of low interest rates forming zombie debt companies (estimated to be about 20% of all companies last I heard, but didn't go verify) to come crashing down. Something like Revlon is not an anomaly, but a big warning sign. Nonetheless we have fully stepped over the line into the time for violence.
I am watching a major political party who is in power across all levels of governance not only fail to put up any resistance to a burgeoning right wing authority but also manage to fund institutions like the police while everything else seems to fall over due to political inaction and all motherfuckers like Gred can do is tell us to shut up and vote as if that's not what the fuck we did in 2020.
Reiterating it is important. Don't get complacent. You did it once, you must do it again and continue to do it.
What do you expect them to do? Honestly and really, what are your points here.
The only thing they can do with a 50-50 split in the Senate is confirm appointments, and the GOP still holds up as many of those as they can.
The biggest problem now that the power of the individual vote is about to be eliminated is state legislatures, and the GOP control the majority of those.
