I'll be fair and give our resident court lovers the benefit of the doubt. The court did give them a win to talk about.

But this is a very great litmus test to see whether people can be reasonable or not. At some point people are going to have to admit the courts don't have that much power at all in the face of a strongman who doesn't care about their stern words and letters, if the tariff situation continues unabated.

I mean, we can already see the courts words matter little so far when it comes to immigration enforcement and the rights of non-citizens. We've seen words mean little after the murder of an American by ice. I am pessimistic that words will matter much here as well.

This is objectively wrong. Undeniably. If he felt it couldn't be enforced, he wouldn't have ragequit with a temporary tarrif. And if you think Trump is going to get either chambers to allow him to extend it, you're delusional. He was told using IEEPA was unlawful. He is no longer using it for tarrifs. Not debatable.

If you can't differentiate being able to unilaterally retaliate with economy destroying tarrifs with no cap (often 100%+) and having tarrifs capped at 15% for 150 days (or in the 232 case, lengthy investigations into national security to justify said tarrifs), then you're lost.

With all that said, end game is using section 232, tarrifs for national security (like the steel tarrifs currently in place). The hurdle with that is that the tarrifs are article specific and each article requires an investigation to analyze national security threats.

That investigation is led by the commerce department.

Who has two sons buying up tarrif rebates from struggling businesses that can't weather the litigation time and costs required to get refunds (which is why I said the US Gov will absolutely be giving the money back).

Which is why Trump today immediately said they'll have to litigate it.

IDK man, there were a lot of times where I felt like it was doomer talk and I wasn't as worried about the nightmare we were going to be seeing, but you can mark me down as "Doomer" after I watched not 1, but 2 unarmed US Citizens get murdered in broad daylight with multiple camera angles and the Whitehouse labels the dead as terrorists and protects the killers, who are to this day unpunished and presumably still collecting a fact paycheck compliments of the Bloated military sized budget of Trumps wannabe Gestapo force formerly known as the DHS and ICE.

I mostly just post silly comments. While I get your frustration and that of others (specifically people coming at you directly), there's more nuance. I think saying 'you either have faith in the system or you don't' oversimplifies it, and I'd like to think despite some of the posts the majority of people here are smarter than that. A person can have faith in the system (or at least some parts of it) and be incredibly frustrated by it or feel some resignation. People can have no faith in the system but still want to see things get better, yet be lost on how.

I get wanting consistency, but I'd also hope that people here at least will shift whatever side in light of new information being introduced, given the average level of education here.

Then again, as someone who works in that field to some degree I can see that not changing and people staying entrenched.

I wouldn't be surprised if many of you complaining about the "doomers" are affected minimally by the things going on. I know quite a few of you make much more than I do and I'm barely affected. At the same time, there are many out there who are affected greatly and can't afford (sometimes literally) for the courts to fix things. How many more Renee Goods & Alex Prettis will there be before the courts deal with ICE? And even then, it still requires enforcement of said laws/rulings which becomes "who watches the watchmen?"

I get the hate for all the doomposts and negativity, but can you honestly say it hasn't been warranted with this administration? Aside from his previous term, has there been an administration that has been this fucked up?

I WANT to have hope, but the longer it takes just to stop the things going on is just going to make it take even longer to fix, if it even gets fixed at all.

Trump 2016 was a shit show, but he didn't have a plan and acted like a dog that caught the car for 75% of that term at least. Also the Dems seemingly fought back a bit more against it.

Now Trump has a full on plan, billionaires have bought out most of social media/news orgs, he has his own gestapo force to deploy anywhere he wants, and Dems are just rolling over. Then people like Sal or Tymon come in worried about the global impact of these things and they're told "lol doomers trust the courts".
