I don't study sociology and thus cant provide proper context to the evolution of family structure. What I do think can be observed contemporarily is the increasing isolation of individuals to within their family and more so themselves. In contrast with the average perception of past emphasis on at least intergenerational family structure. As well as the greater importance of community and more interconnected social structures of the past.

We tend to think of industrialization in the imperial core as some old event. It's still very modern in the scope of the length of civilization.
