There is no way he would have been fired for this shit if he wasn't extremely annoying about it.

This creates an obvious legal problem for all government entities attempting to enforce the establishment clause (separation of church and state) without sending every decision they make about religion permeating social institutions to the courts. It may be facially logically coherent but in a practical sense is going to fuck us up.

While I don't think this SCOTUS has the votes to overturn gay marriage or restore anti-sodomy laws or anti-birth control laws, the House should pass federal laws on these issues and dare the Republicans in the Senate to filibuster. Force them to take wildly unpopular stances before the midterms or codify those rights beyond just the whims of the Supreme Court.

Those measures aren't unpopular in any way that would materially hurt Republicans though.

Is that where we're at now? Judging the merits of a ruling based on "how bad it will hurt Republicans"? Because holy shit we're going downhill fast.

Yeah, I honestly thought Republicans would actually never get rid of Roe v Wade because it was a issue they could use forever, but they actually did it and I hope they pay the price for decades

After four years of Trump not getting punished at all for the bullshit he did, and only really losing because he so badly fucked up Covid that fucking Biden looked like a good alternative, I have 0 faith that they will pay any price.

What does this mean? Republican senators saying states should be able to ban birth control would absolutely hurt them.

It would hurt them to the extent of people saying "man, that's not right, I think they went too far here" - right before they voted R down the line anyway.

Remember, they're voting against their interests. Many because of ignorance, but many just because they hate you more.

What price? They can still boogeyman the fact states like CA or NY are allowing abortions, or that Canada is allowing people to cross the border for it. They can keep running on this shit easily.

Hurt the republicans? How? Only if they were in a purple state maybe. They spit out crazy shit that's worse then saying states should be able to ban birth control all the time and get praised by their base.

The idea that political positions don't matter to voters is silly.

Then explain to me how everyone is still projecting Republicans are going to take back the house.

Democrats are in charge and things are going to shit. The how or why of things going to shit doesn't matter to a not insignificant portion of voters (the mythical independent voter that swings elections), they just see rampant inflation and the stock market crumbling, COVID still hasn't gone away, gas is crazy expensive, and that's all happen while Dems run the show.

For independents? I'm sure it's a large concern, for most GoP voters nowadays? It's "own the libs straight down the line" voting and their only concern is in the primaries.

There's enough crazy deep red repubs I feel that could push for state bans while they let their purple counterparts sit by and do nothing. Will democrats push things to try to get them to put their names down? Hopefully, but the left are just too soft in this day and age. Taking the high road is bullshit.

The first thing they will tackle though is trying to outlaw and punish anyone who seeks an abortion elsewhere and leaves their state, by slamming the books down on them for crazy stupid prison terms (especially if non-white) and making the rest fearful. That will take time but they have tons of it and they have already packed the courts how they want. Who's to say in the next 2-3yrs if Trump gets re-elected or we have DeSantis as prez we don't see some executive orders flying out with a court that would potentially back them all up. Or a SC who would rule against the capability of NY/CA to allow abortions to non-residents

Because democrats are in charge and things are going to shit. The how or why of things going to shit doesn't matter too much to many voters, they just see rampant inflation and the stock market crumbling, COVID still hasn't gone away, gas is crazy expensive, and that's all happen while Dems run the show.
100% this. GOP are amazing at blaming whoever is in charge for everything when they aren't in power and then doing a 180 and blaming the minority for all the bad stuff when they are in power. All this shit has extensive reasons as to why they are happening but people don't want to sit and learn, or even watch a fucking 15min youtube video on how the president doesn't fucking set gas prices and companies are to blame.

I consider it a small victory that I was able to convince my mother to never vote Republican again. Her vote didn't matter in the slightest, being in a deep blue state, but regardless, it's about all I can celebrate in this.

And most people are completely oblivious that the legislative branch is where all the power is. The executive branch is at the mercy of legislative checks and/or obstructionism.

Speaking of and a little off topic, when the hell is the Senate Bill to make DST permanent going to make it through the house already. Such an easy layup. Argh I hate Congress.

    The coach was wrong.

You know it won't apply to all religions. If a Muslim or Satanist was doing this then it wouldn't have even gone to the supreme court.
