Harvard has an attorney present attempting to actually walk the Justices through the admission process to demonstrate how race is not a determinative factor and they don't care. Also, the case became about Harvard at some point.

Guy that benefits from AA wants to take down AA.

If race is not a determinative factor, wouldn’t that mean that acceptance rates should be essentially unchanged if it gets repealed?

The way modern affirmative action works is that race is not a determinative factor in any one applicant and there are no quotas, but colleges are allowed to have diversity as a general goal for the student body. The idea being that students benefit from being exposed to a wide arrange or perspectives and background and it prepares them better for the future where they should be interacting with people of different walks of life. Ideally this isn't just race, but also anything unique to the applicant including things that aren't noted on any application questions.

Some don't see a distinction between "This candidate gets in because of race/religion/first-gen/trans/etc." and "The student body benefits from having peer representation of race/religion/first-gen/trans/etc." but it does matter in terms of how a college implements diversity into the admission process.

The effect is likely to become mitigated by the increasing phase out of SAT scores (which are a giant source of the over-representation of Asians)

While I agree that there are definitely people trying to take things too far left for the general populace to accept it, giving centrists credit for liberal victories is bonkers.
I've pointed this out before on BG, but this is a horrible take.

1 - Obama was pro-gay marriage as a State Senator before he became against it (pro-civil union, anti-marriage) as a state-wide U.S. Senate candidate, only becoming openly gay marriage again once public opinion swung towards gay marriage being acceptable while President. He adapted to make himself palatable to his electoral audience; when he moved up to larger and more conservative audiences, he shifted to the right. He is the perfect embodiment of how an electable candidate can only be as liberal as the center allows. Pro-civil union, anti-marriage was CLEARLY the safest position for a left candidate in the early 2000s up to 2008 when Obama started out in politics and when he ran for his first term. The polling changed quite rapidly.

2 - Any progress in the future must be earned like all progress in the past. Inch by inch in the trenches by activists and operatives that do this every day. Civil rights advances are made possible primarily through through work that can take decades UNTIL popular opinion shifts enough for the heavy hitters to come out and embrace it. Politicians can't afford to be the leaders of progress. You have to avoid the radical label in order to win. Winning is how you put yourself in a position to cement progress later on.

The role of progressives shouldn't be to push the Democratic party too far left that it becomes untenable (and by all accounts, Democrats become unelectable to the centrists FAR faster than Republicans do). It is to change public opinion. The Civil Rights movement didn't start in the 60's. It started all the way back at the first challenges to Plessy v. Ferguson. It included integration of the military and integrated labor in the northeast. And it required MLK to preach non-violence, not because black people didn't deserve to be angry but because violence would play into the opposition's narrative.

Before telling Linsay Graham that yes, he has to go testify in Georgia, Roberts put a temp hold on the release of trumps tax returns.

Committee has until the 10th to reiterate the findings of every lower court to SCOTUS.

lol, pretty sure that is something they won't touch with a 10 foot poll. To hear and vote in favor of putting a stop to the debt relief would open a can of worms that even Right-wing nut jobs wouldn't do.

So while scrolling this thread got an anti affirmative action advertisements about how Biden and the liberals are racist against Asians.

"The left wants to punish your child for being Asian no matter how hard they study."

They are already laying the groundwork to draft the Asians for the race war.

I see no reason why it wouldn't' work. Putting the other against the other always works. History rarely disproves this.
