Iiiii am not so sure that the federal judiciary is really the talent pool you seem to be assuming it is. People with good pedigrees and internships can alternatively go make high 6, maybe 7 figures in corporate law without having to put up with politics or the public sphere hardly at all.

People that go for the supreme court are more interested in social reform than making a buck, and it shows in the justices.
