Short version is that if they sided with the states, states could overrule federal laws about voting under the guise of "voter fraud". To an extreme level, could involve stopping vote counts after a set time period, which would disenfranchise vote by mail people, even more gerrymandered districts, etc.

It's basically what Trump's lawyers were grasping at to overrule the election of Biden in 2021.

Some of the fears of Moore v Harper were a bit farfetched. A legislature still has to follow federal laws. Electors have to be chosen on election day. They can't just swoop in after the fact and rewrite rules or change electors because they didnt like the outcome.

That was a state law that would've affected his position as a state-elected official. There are no federal guidelines that dictate his ability to run for president as governor.

This still would have had a massive affect on election legislation that the state can control, like redistricting. It wouldn't have allowed judicial review of election laws passed by legislatures or question their constitutionality.

1/6 was a pretty pathetic and pastey demonstration overall. Again, sensationalist, and not remotely close to the same as Yeltsin shelling the Whitehouse. Maybe it's the privilege and insulation of American society that makes them feel their moments in time are just always so exceptional.
