To compare McConnell to any generic Republican is about as bad faith an argument as you can have. A generic Republican with no experience is not guiding the Senate so masterfully as McConnell did while he lead, nor could whoever they have appointed as Senate minority whip.
Tom Suozzi ain't Nancy Pelosi and would not be able to accomplish a fraction of what she could even when she's out of leadership.
Plus, removing incumbency advantage after being term limited would introduce a more diverse government. It's a stupid hill to die on, but hang yourself.
But it cuts both ways; experience makes both sides more effective. If that has favored the GOP, then it is our fault for losing the Senate multiple times and because progressives tune out during non-Presidential years or whine thing don't get done fast enough.
Term limits make sense for SCOTUS since it's not elected. But everyone else faces their constituents. KY elected McConnell because he did a good job for KY.
Except it doesn't remove it, incumbency advantage is not nearly as big as people think, except maybe in non-competitive districts. The incumbent party will still win in 90% of the time, and probably with someone who is a lot more extreme and will have no institutional knowledge to rely on, meaning more power for lobbyists.
All term limits do is take power away from the voters. I've seen too many great legislators disappear due to state-imposed term limits.
Incumbent advantage isn't about party, it's about the legislator. An oncoming legislator replacing a departing one isn't going to have the same advantage even if it's the same party.
I'm talking in primaries as well. Not just general elections.
McConnell has won here not because he's an effective leader for Kentucky, that's fucking laughable. He's effective because no one raises serious challenges in the primary and he (usually) coasts to general victories but even then, has had a closer race than he wanted. Kentucky also has closed primaries, so half the state (yes, about half are registered Democrats) doesn't get a say in either senator. That's why I'm registered Republican. So I can vote in the Republican primary.
But there's a reason he coasts to a general victory. The state is deep red with the exception of Beshear. Pelosi and Schumer coast to general victories as well.
Experience makes legislators more effective. That helps both sides. It won't fix the problem where Dems generally have a tougher time doing things because building is harder than tearing stuff down.
Harris campaign clearly astroturfing SCOTUS stories to get the base riled up. CNN has produced 2 absolutely damning stories about internal deliberations. McConnell really fucked over Obama with Gorsuch, what a massive fucking ghoul Gorsuch is. Then Biden releasing a reform plan. I think they smartly want several issues getting the base fired up.
SCOTUS approval is at an all time low and easily tied to to Abortion rights. It's a smart play.
SCOTUS deadlocked on the question of allowing public funds for religious charter schools. It deadlocked because ACB recused herself. Oklahoma Supreme Court ruling barring public funds for religious charter schools will stand. Unexpected W.
I'm actually impressed she recused herself.
for now
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/sup...-la-rcna183774WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a last-minute plea from Native Americans seeking to challenge a massive copper mining project in Arizona that would destroy a sacred site used for tribal ceremonies, a weighty dispute that pitted religious rights against business interests.
The court turned away an appeal brought by the nonprofit group Apache Stronghold asserting that its members' religious rights will be violated if the Resolution Copper mine goes forward because it would obliterate Oak Flat, the site in question.

Incredibly bleak, puberty blockers and hormones for trans kids can be banned at the state level.

The GOP is a death cult, this is going to be disastrous for women on Medicaid and on Planned Parenthood in red states.
