Sounds like many of the deaths were caused by smoke inhalation to those who were hiding from the gunmen.

assuming anything coming out of russia is to believed, and not just putins words but actual news outlets are also saying the gunmen were caught in the bryansk region of russia which would lead them directly to the brunishevo russian/ukrainian checkpoint. that does at least suggest prior planning considering the belarusian border is closer to moscow

but yeah, i doubt any of us will know the actual answers to this any time soon
