Yeah, but that sounds like your M.O. generally.

Russia is a highly centralized country where even now mobilization is truly partial in Moscow and the wealthier regions. Where as in the east, it is total. Everything in the Russian Empire is to support the metropolis of Moscow. These areas of unrest being shared around on Twitter are from areas which equate to colonies. It's not a matter of these colonists acting in self-interest because they know the position they are in, and it is lose-lose.

Frankly, when it comes to an area being shared like Dagestan, they were already one of the most restless areas to the Tsar. So they can't be characterized as only caring about themselves until it hits home, as it always hits their home.

Russia is the literary and figurative equivalent of the Republican party or conservatism writ large. It's all about the state (or Orthodox church), and anything contrary to that is an enemy. Anything contrary to that belief creates such a large amount of cognitive dissonance they never the propaganda or an authoritarian regime to control it.

Everyone is surprised that all these countries are leaning right, but it's literal human nature to chill during times of peace (typically achieved with liberal policy) and froth at the mouth when under attack (typically happening when the amygdala is activated, associated with conservative or self-preservative thinking).

Putin, DeSantis, all these folks are dangerously smart. They know you have to walk a fine line when you don't have all the cards and largely will not hesitate to flex if needed to gain the power to act or preserve it.

That's as far as I go with that statement.
