It may absolutely be the tendency of people—especially Westerners and Eurocentrics—to engage in reductionist rhetoric; in this case Iraq. However it would stand to reason that despite being unable to blame the Ottomans or more importantly the fucking Brits over ancient ideological and overall blood feuds. That they are compounded by despicable hubris and utter disregard of them. Then further disregarded in what is most often the violent pursuit of Western interests in said regions.
So that when outstanding tensions explode into violence, as could clearly be expected by apparently anyone who cared to understand; despite the oft shock and dismay Western leadership. That—while they are not directly to blame for the issue, they certainly not only got involved but were the reason it exploded to such proportion, and could therefore receive the lion share of blame.

To which I would further extend that to Ukraine, but no one cares about that.

Looks like they were aiming for the railway to cut off supplies. For obvious reasons. There has been a lot of speculation on if they would or even could take out that bridge. It would appear after the recent gains in Kherson that they can, and did. Supplying the south will be very difficult now.

The most impactful part of this will likely be keeping Crimea itself supplied. Keep in mind its a shitty salt marsh of a peninsula without water. Which it once got from Ukraine. Russia was struggling to keep it supplied before the invasion as the reservoirs slowly ran down.

You can't say that keeping the Ukrainians trained and supplied is the same thing as your example of China setting up camp in Mexico. Ukraine and NATO have never attacked Russia before nor have expressed they will do so, they are their for defense only. China being in Mexico in your example would literally mean they could attack the US, they'd have no reason to be there. Putin would be upset if Ukraine joined NATO, not specifically because he feared Ukraine could invade or attack them, but because it would mean Russia invading Ukraine would be a bigger fools move than his recent invasion, because the might of an entirely extra military would be present and from more sides.

You can't say that keeping the Ukrainians trained and supplied is the same thing as your example of China setting up camp in Mexico. Ukraine and NATO have never attacked Russia before nor have expressed they will do so, they are their for defense only. China being in Mexico in your example would literally mean they could attack the US, they'd have no reason to be there. Putin would be upset if Ukraine joined NATO, not specifically because he feared Ukraine could invade or attack them, but because it would mean Russia invading Ukraine would be a bigger fools move than his recent invasion, because the might of an entirely extra military would be present and from more sides.

Maybe we can all just convince Putin that it's not a hostile military alliance, and that balance of power politics just don't matter anymore. Maybe Putin didn't get the memo that the US is just a benign hegemony which honors it's treaties and doesn't engage in wars of illegal aggression whenever it feels like. Someone should tell Putin that NATO in Serbia was no big deal.

This is what people generally hate about Americans. Their lack of regard to consider different points of view when they declare what is and isn't or should be, based on an ignorance of the world outside their own borders.

This is a pointless discussion because you just don't care how things are, were, or work. Russia wasn't annexing Ukraine before the west stuck their tentacles in anyway. Just because balance of power politics and spheres of influence mean nothing to you. Doesn't mean that it doesn't to others. As it obviously does because Ukraine is a fucking disaster right now. Which the West will take no credit for.
