Wild Hearts (PC/PS5/XSX) - monster hunting with building elements - 16 Feb, 2023

Seems this didn't have a topic, there were some gameplay previews recently and I think it's shaping up to be pretty nice.

Wild Hearts is a monster hunting games set in a fantasy world inspired by feudal japan. The game is being developed by Omega Force (division of Koei Tecmo) and will release on 16 February 2023.

Other than the usual monster hunting gameplay, Wild Hearts includes a building element. Outside of combat, you can build camps and other stuff that helps you travel, hunt etc. During combat, you can build things like crates to use for jumping off and aerial attacks, barricades to stop charging monsters, springboards to dash or fires to charge through to ignite your weapons.

So the 10 hour trial with EA Play/Game Pass is out (although locked to essentially the equivalent of HR1, just three hunts and a small area. Gameplay was pretty fun and has potential, but maaaan it is rough performancewise on Series X. Looks like shit, to me, and didn't feel super smooth even on performance mode. It does not look like a game that should be releasing this week. If they can sort it out though there's some promising elements.

So is this essentially Toukiden for the new gen?

I never played Toukiden but I think I did see this called a spiritual successor somewhere

It's by the same devs that made Toukiden (Omega Force). They also make all the Dynasty Warriors games and whatnot

I'm lowkey hyped to play this and learn to fight with the umbrella lol. If nothing else, it'll be something to break the tedium of the grindy AF MHRise endgame.

The game apparently has horrible performance on PC, even though it looks quite last gen. I'm not sure if I'll be picking it up right now, but for anyone that plans to play on PC, I just saw a post on reddit with a ridiculous performance fix - apparently changing audio from stereo to 5.1/7.1 makes the game run smooth for a lot of people

I'm pretty hyped for this. I have a buddy that works at EA that's getting me and two friends I play with codes in a few days which probably helps that.

The only negatives I'm really seeing on the reviews are performance related like Gokulo said. If changing the audio settings helps it sounds like hopefully performance can be improved via patches. We are also going to be playing on consoles so hopefully that helps.

4090 and only managing to run at 60fps.. yea there are issues lol. I need to lock it to 60 for it to be playable or its stutter city. The game isnt even using 50% of the cards power. Otherwise the combat is very very satisfying. The building is very cool and adds a very nice tactical part to the gameplay.

I'm just going to wait until they patch it, not in a hurry to be frustrated.

Patch today helped a ton for me, better frames but still inconsistent frames =/. Game is super fun though

If anyone wants to check the trial on PC, there's a sale for 1-month of EA Play on Steam, so you can get it for dirt cheap. I'm happy I didn't get hyped too much and buy the game on release, as it turns out my PC can barely run this on standard setting, horribly choppy fps while looking ugly as hell... I might check it out on PS5 some time using EA play too, but I'll wait for them to drop a couple patches I think.
