That thread is a very strange read. I have also been "exploiting" by buying up the AH and trading them in for repeatable quests. Easiest money of my life, cya on the other side.

There is a massive amount of level 1 mobs that repop in 30 seconds outside the gates to deal with the population, those have reduced (but not 0) drops. Everything else is normal. The rest of their message is kind of just nonsense, Bastok/Sandy might have slightly better repeatables but that was kind of always the case lol. All those "5k items you need for Valkurm" are literally sold by NPCs for much less typically. People are just flipping items because people are stupid enough to buy them. Where do they think other players are getting these items? Nobody had crafters leveled and stuff like Light Axe (quest level 10~ axe) was dirt cheap, I bought mine for 300 gil. AFAIK they didn't reset any zones to deal with mobs sitting at the entrance. The only one that was actually problematic was Gusgen, every other zone just typically had the occasional Goblin people would chain aggro near the entrance but they were ridiculously easy to avoid. They've since swapped over to mobs depopping though just because Gusgen was a complete shitshow. Not that that should have mattered since this guy should have been doing the Mhaura quest anyway.
Some of those guys clearly never played during the 75 era

There are literally 3679 people on the server on a Tuesday night at 11:20 PM EST. I think the server has problems, but I'm also having fun and I think if it were as bad as the person was making it out to be then there wouldn't be nearly 4k ppl on. I'm sure the server will die down in population eventually, but this seems like a wildly successful era experience, overall.
I caught a /sea all at 3950ish earlier, thought it was gonna break 4k. Absolutely wild numbers and it's crazy how stable it's been holding up.
Everything to me seems retail or nearly identical to era.
I just feel like it's Nostralrius syndrome, where people that didn't play at launch (I did not, full disclosure) have no idea what a MMORPG where EVERY SINGLE PLAYER is the same level is like for the first month or so.

Also, the post mentions increased vendor prices, while their patch notes say:
Elemental Magic Scrolls
The price of elemental magic scrolls sold by vendors have been reduced.
Vendor Prices and Sellable Items
Many items have had their vendor prices adjusted. Some NPCs now offer an expanded assortment of items for sale.
Does that mean only elemental scrolls are cheaper, while the word adjusted below that means increased? Just asking out of curiosity, as I don't play, but it does feel like some people really don't remember how this game was back at launch, lol
Prices are definitely lower. For someone who has spent an "eh" amount of time farming gil, I have every RDM spells and most WHM spells. At least those sellable by vendors.
No idea, Gokulo. D:
Also yeah, I feel like people are probably also getting exposed as ones who didn't actually play on ERA and just remember it as if they did. That can happen sometimes. Like.. they think cuz they played in 2006, it's as if they played at launch which..is definitely not the case considering how things continued to change.
and honestly, people can just quit. it's not that hard. If you find it not fitting what you need, just quit. it's not as if this is a new MMO. It's a private server of an almost 20 year old game lol
also, have to keep in mind on some wikis, prices aren't listed for like.. base fame IIRC. the higher the fame, the cheaper stuff can be.
i didn't spend too long farming, but did the treant bulb repeatable in Bastok and managed to fill every gear slot except earrings/ammo for my Warrior.
now obviously its' gonna get tougher as we go, but to say its impossible to earn gil early on, maybe they shoulda leveled something else to get a lil gil for stuff, then swap to whm after![]()
Starting as WHM was a pain in the ass anyway tbh. My first character was WHM, which I leveled to like 13-14 and then decided to go to another sever to join the Polish community and went with RDM - the starting experience was quite different.
Yes elemental school scroll prices are lowered - the cost of elemental scrolls is usually considered a reason for fresh characters to NOT play black mage. It's seen as prohibitive, so we lowered it to encourage players to play BLM.
As for vendor prices, some items have been lowered, but not many. It was surgical and only problematic items were targeted. By problematic, I mean items that generate a lot more gil than most other items to the point that on most private servers those items become what most players engage in, while ignoring many other game activities to make money. However, some items have also had their vendor prices increased. It's mainly about making sure certain NPC gil farms are not the only things seen as viable - which happens a lot on other servers.
Don't really see the issue with the balance/gameplay decisions (so far) other than whiny posers who had no intention of actually playing on an old school server suddenly realizing that they're playing on an old school server. Really genuinely believe that people like the poster's friend never played retail during the old days and/or they're coloring their memories of how the game used to be with modern sensibilities. People have been babied by things like Sparks for the last decade so the idea of gil being harder to come by is probably a mindbreak for some of them. My main grievance with the lack of transparency on job adjustments aside (I still think it's stupid and that's not gonna change, sorry) it seems fine and the only thing stopping me from playing is I can't justify balancing time between this and retail.
On that topic, were any of the job adjustments discovered and posted anywhere yet (I realize it might be early for that, because people are still low level)? Interested just out of pure curiosity, so if anyone stumbles upon something please post a link :D
Clear mind might be lvl15 instead of 20 for whm, but I can't confirm. Also maybe Poison does more damage, but I'm working off memory for that one.
Just heard Refresh might be 50mp, and convert is on a 13min timer. Annoying if true, especially cause I can't tell what was given to RDM to compensate. If nothing, why bother? That only boxes it more into the refresh battery role...with even less heals to support the group.

I saw people on Discord saying defender now gives a reduction in enmity loss and a bonus to block rate in addition to the standard atk-/def+, so that's kinda neat.
