There are unfortunately no circumstances where I could convince my group(or myself) to start from Square 1 on a new server, nor would I want to play an Era Accurate server. TBH the only reason I went to Horizon was the promise of Era+ changes that would reshape the endgame meta and fix the glaring flaws of the era and certain jobs clear supremacy in the meta.

But I didn't get that, and thanks to the Utsu nerf most of the jobs I level are actively Era- and worse than retail experience... so I'll keep playing until my little brother gets bored of it then its delete and move on.

A completely accurate retail experience isn't appealing to me in my age lol.

We love the Eden staff and think they're great people. If you want closer to era and dual boxing, Eden is for you. However, there's something to be said about saying it's doing well and yet coming into another server's thread to try to advertise...

They intentionally lied, it's that simple. It's not really era+, it's era with some stupid sprinkled on top.

Endgame is an awful grind, and they want it that way to keep you wasting as much time as possible. Also the more people there are, the harder it is to do anything and claim anything and enter anything. Even Square Enix made HNM spawnable, and yet a private server wants hundreds of people all sitting there wasting their lives over a % chance to fight and a % chance to get a drop and a % chance to be outlot everyone else again.

All the people who sing the praises of high population are going to be cursing that same thing soon enough, when they see that population is gonna be cock blocking them from doing the stuff you want to do when they login after work.

Also Horizon is good at PR about working with other private servers but don't back it up, they refuse to work with any other server at all and if any other server has any staff that offer to help they don't want it and don't want their staff helping anywhere else either. It's 100% Horizon or nothing, because they are acting like they work for some investment bank and people want to steal their precious secrets or something.

Primarily they opened themselves to scrutiny with their abundance of marketing at every corner of the gaming community.. destroying other, more balanced places to play, pledged fixes from retail and light touches to create an era enhanced.. "era+" version of FFXI. And instead they created something else entirely with the FFXI moniker slapped on, where little makes sense to those that know the game, even less works consistently.. and then on top of that.. purposely obfuscated information that directly benefited themselves only. It's just kind of ridiculous and the scrutiny is well earned and will be a huge waste of everyones time very soon.. including theirs.

Eh I'm still enjoying it. Pretty casual fishing and periodically leveling BLM (52) and DRK (68). I don't think the admins are perfect, but there's some hyperbole in here imo. Doesn't take much time after reading the Horizon discord to understand why it needs moderation/censorship to some extent; just a whole lot of unhappy folks out there in the world. The balance changes have been frustrating at times due to issues with implementation or relative delta between performance across jobs, but I wouldn't exactly call it a massive downgrade from SE who moved glacially slow on fixing glaring imbalances.

Overall, it's an enjoyable community and I've enjoyed running into some old folks from forever ago/BG/etc.

I'm having a good time. There's some annoying adjustments (HNM system being a copy but worse version of Dark Ixion/Sandworm for example which were already bad design) and a lot of bugged content (many wasted hours on Dynamis, JoL, Ouryu Cometh before all that content was finally fixed) but I'm still having a blast playing on a lively era server.

Been fun. Playing Tank which I never did on retail or any other private server. Been a learning experience. Finishing NIN to 37 finally so I can actually be useful on non Dynamis endgame content, so that's nice too. Have a pretty solid grouping of people to game with too so that's nice, just hope they can deal with me being a clumsy dumbass while figuring out new things for me in a 20 year old game, lol.
