Shanahan yesterday mentioned it was doubtful and wasn't expecting them to sign Mayfield. They already claimed Johnson from the Bronco's practice squad within an hour of the game on Sunday. As is, 49ers are 24th on the Waiver wire list, and I'm sure a QB needy team with nothing to lose may claim him and see what he's got for the last few games.

With no first round pick there's basically no harm in seeing if they can get anything out of him, and if someone else signs him in the off-season they should get a comp pick out of it. Basically no downsides for the Rams.
