isn't the comp formula partly base on the amount of time you play? i know the contract you get is part of it, but i was positive you had to play too... cause if there's the potential for a comp pick why didn't the panthers just hold onto him

It's based on Salary, playing time, post season awards, as well as how many players they lose versus signing. So he won't trigger a great pick, but when you hardly have any, you get what you can take.

As for with the Panthers, roster crunch + he asked for his release and they knew they wouldn't play him again and didn't want a possible distraction on the team.
