No, not when the strategy here is "they're hurting me AND you by doing this" because the strategy then was "they're hurting me and you by NOT doing this".

By 2020 he was such an obvious grifter it baffled me that anyone would even consider him for a second term.

Worth remembering that Trump got about 8.5mil more votes (>10% increase) in 2020 than 2016.

This is after being impeached twice, fumbling COVID and hurricane response, etc. I don't really count being a transparent grifter as possibly responsible for the difference because he was really obviously a grifter for both elections.

People had always assumed that higher turn out automatically favored the Democrats, but Trump proves there are disaffected right wing voters too.

At this point, you have to assume that the bloc of poor urban voters who everyone assumes would be reliable blue votes if we could just activate them is pretty much permanently disenfranchised. They literally are incapable of being convinced politics matters enough for them to take the trouble to vote (and to be fair, the GOP does a fantastic job of ensuring that it is troublesome). This is why Bernie could never take over the Democratic party, much less win a general election.

The Democrats have weaponized fear just as well. It is no different at all despite the topics. Rather than immigrants, family, religion, taxes, and culture war. It is immigrants, women and minorities, climate change, and culture war.

To which there will be all the "but those are real problems" or "it's not the same!" Which is irrelevant because how the motivation and fear are applied to voters is not different. Both sides are strongly pushing identity politics without the need to deliver.

Yes because wanting to appoint Supreme Court Justices that believe that the right to privacy extends to medical decisions, including abortion, and/or creating a legislative right to abortion is not a solution for the attacks on women's rights.

And simply not criminalizing being a supportive parent of an LBGTQ+ youth is not a solution to LBGTQ rights.

And wanting to increase investment in green energy and better infrastructure is not a solution to climate change.


The only real solution is getting rid of the Democrats and embracing Stalin.

If we want to get purely political, Trump's 2016 win and 2020 loss are both for the same reason - the rust belt.

Trump won 2016 in MI, WI, and PA because of disenfranchised rust belt workers he promised he would get back on their feet. People in the fossil fuel industry, among others.

He did absolutely none of what he said he was going to do (which was vague at best anyway), none of those people were better off in 2020, so they fell off the bandwagon. Results are right in front of you - he lost all 3 of those states in 2020. And that was the margin of the election. Georgia, despite it being quite possibly the deathknell for him now, was completely irrelevant to the outcome of the election.
