I don't think you can reliably use Zillow here since Mar-a-Lago HAS to be used as a resort. Maybe the property is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but it's also worth 0 dollars if you can't find someone who wants to buy it. Which means finding someone who wants to own and operate a country club, not buy and develop a property for personal use.

I think this is the key. Running a business is a massive pain in the ass and its expensive. It is much harder to find a buyer for a property that must be a business than a property where they have the freedom to do whatever they want with it.

Edit: Either way even if the property was worth $500m that is still WAY less than $1.8b and still way less than even $1b.

Yeah not enough people are talking about this. I heard a buch of chuds buying into the talking points "pffft yeah 65,000 of beachfront property is only worth 18 million, this judge is a chump". The strings attatched to the conversation of the property destroy the convention evaluation.
