Neck guards are mandatory in Major Junior or below here in Canada. I know the NHL has tried to get the players to ware it, but they players keep resisting.
I wore a undershirt with a built in kevlar neck guard for all of the decade plus I played hockey, and I still do when I go out and play. The risk just isn't worth it.

Dana Carvey’s son, Dex Carvey, died from a drug overdose at 32 years old. Dex himself wasn’t a celebrity but literally my whole life I have watched Dana’s stand up and appearances on talk shows and he always gushed about his son and how much he loved him, so this one is kind of a gut punch personally.
