Was going to say that and also was the general dude from Silver Surfer (to those wondering "dude from Glory" was Broderick's best friend who signs up to join the unit but gets upset when he is treated like a soldier).

Matthew Perry died from the affects of Special K (ketamine).
Dude must have been super depressed.
Ladeeda you can definitely overdose on ketamine, but it doesn't mean he did. It has a lot of cardiac effects too. That plus working out plus sitting in a hot tub = no bueno.
I was feeling like something was off because K generally does not kill people on its own, but then I found this line:
"It noted that the level of ketamine investigators found in Perry’s blood was equivalent to the amount that would be used during general anesthesia."
ok yeah that might do it
It wasn’t so much the ketamine but taking the ketamine in a hot tub so he just passed out and drowned, I’m assuming
Sounds like he just traded one addiction for another. Once an addict, always an addict.

Or he could have had a doctor prescribing it for depression or a number of things. He was probably self medicating (though more likely he was getting high with it).
People, especially rich people, are able to have these drugs prescribed and compounded pretty easily because money talks. It just sucks because folks who are prone to abuse often "legally" do so under the medical guidance of someone who probably shouldn't be practicing. I would never give ketamine to someone to take home, let alone prescribe meds someone has been known to abuse, because the risk is too high.
I feel sad for him. He went the way of Michael Jackson.
Apparently he was on Ketamine treatment for his depression, but this was not the result of said treatments. Sounds like he just got hooked on it from that and spiraled from there. What the fuck kind of doctor prescribes Ketamine treatment for an addict? (A rich people doctor, I know. It was rhetorical)
Sounds like a Michael Jackson doctor type of scenario. Will they rake him over the coals, or nah because he wasn't as famous as MJ?
If you had to pick a drug, though, ketamine isn't the worst. No physical dependence.
He shouldn't have used it alone, though. If you are rich, hopefully you can pay someone to keep you safe while you use.
Apparently he was receiving the doctor supervised ketamine therapy for depression
But his last infusion was 10 days before his death, and the amount in his system at autopsy means he was using it outside the therapy practice. Ketamine has a ~4 hour half life in the body, it is eliminated quickly.

Could also be he was getting ketamine from other providers. I've seen shopping before when you tell folks "yo you can only get this once a week right now" sand the only time they feel better is when they trip so they get doctors to prescribe compounded ketamine for self medicating.
The fact that he was getting infusions kinda tells me it was more of an escape because frankly the data on effect size between IV and nasal (which he could easily afford but probably didn't want to sit in a clinic for 3 hours) is not robust unless you push it to higher than approved doses, which makes one question the need for it in the first place.
As Archie said the half life is pretty miserable with IV so undoubtedly he was getting it from somewhere not at his clinic, whereas nasal ketamine actually has a nice enough half life to build somewhat of a steady state after enough doses.
Ultimately he fell victim to the same dependency, no matter how you slice it. Whatever it was he was trying to escape from, he succeeded.
Edit: looking over this he also had Benzos in his system... Going over the gross organ descriptions it looks like he was 1) recreationally using ketamine 2) on Suboxone for pain/opioid abuse and 3) combining Benzos with Ketamine and Suboxone is a fast track to drowning in his hot tub, which the findings in his lungs seems to indicate. What a fucking way to die.
Millions were seen running from his funeral in terror
