The flavored tobacco/vape ban is a really obvious one. Was sold as a bill to keep kids away from smoking when its already 21 and up. The new restrictions just led to vape shops switching to online ordering and curbside pickup, which reduced age checking requirements down to online verification instead of actually checking ID in person.

Basically all it managed to do was force people who want to smoke menthols to have to get them at an indian casino or military base, the parts of the bill to protect kids from vaping have actually made it worse.

DeSantis will definitely try, although he might come out of this irreparably damaged because Trump can't help but make it personal, and he will make sure DeSantis is persona non-grata with the MAGA portion of the Republican base. Besides him, I don't think anyone but Youngkin has a snowball's chance even when Trump is out of the picture. It's just a feeding frenzy right now because everyone realizes the path to being the non-Trump option is wide open.

For the Dems, the only one that comes to mind are Kamala and the governors. Gavin Newsom, Pritzker, and Gretchen Whitmer. Maybe Beshear? He would be a good general election candidate but I don't think he survives the primary due to the Bernie+AOC crowd.

Raphael Warnock could be very competitive, libs love that he cracked Georgia, he's youngish and good looking, got that preacher-level public speaking ability, has an "all things to all people" lack of hardline policy commitments.

The progressives want to credit her for the grass roots get out the vote network she made in GA, but the fact that Biden, Warnock, and Osoff finished the deal and she couldn't shows that those voters night be important but her progressive politics aren't the way to reach them.

The GOP problem is no matter what they have to crack the blue wall and get at least one of WI, PA, or MI. These are the ones that abandoned HRC but returned to the comfort vote of the old white dude in Biden.

The easiest is getting GA and NV with WI.

There is an unfortunate disconnect between the policies where the president's opinions matter / they can act on then (e.g. foreign policy) and the policies that the voting public cares about (e.g. altering the constitution, laws, etc.). Functionally, the president is just a potential blocker for things people actually care about and their true day to day where they can make an impact is all shit no one cares about.
