When I heard that Biden's family counseled him that his bad debate performance was his aides' fault, my assumption was that the aides tried to get him to step down and the family blamed them for his shortcomings instead.

Oh well! To be real, I am going to vote for whoever the Democrat is for president living or dead. The rest is up to Joe.

CNN put out an editorial that basically said that Biden's decisions are based on a very small insider group which is essentially just his family.

And his family is 100% behind him staying in, so he will. And the party will not buck that decision, so c'est la vie.

The aides named and blamed in the "family blames aides" articles were all the aides that may have been part of that inner circle (e.g. Ron Klain), so I must agree.

given the mass radicalization that happened after World War 1 i have grave doubts re the possibility of lasting peace based upon conciliation while exploding the great Eastern European Empires. the German Empire deserved to be destroyed (20 million Poles deserved a homeland not subjugation) and it is a great question if that ever could have been accomplished without triggering a virulent nationalist backlash.

moreover Japan and Italy radicalized because they didn't get enough territorial claims, gobbling up portions of their neighbors in classical imperial expansion, the exact opposite of what Wilson argued for. the peace we got sucked but i doubt Wilson would have forged a better one.
The problem is that to enforce the harsh penalties that the rest of the allies wanted on Germany would've required more international commitment to enforcements. Like the WWI penalties were harsh enough but no one kept their boot down on Germany when the resentment built up.

Proper enforcement obviously was never going to happen given the way Chamberlain bent over backwards in appeasement, so preventing the rise of the Nazis by denying them the problems to blame on non-Aryans could only have worked better imo

The other out would have been if the US joined the League to play world cop a quarter century earlier.

Isn't the time left between the official declaration of candidates and election day more time than...pretty much every other country in the world takes for their elections? I think we'd be able to pull it off. This "We can't show weakness cause it'd be showing weakness" while we have a dude SHOWING WEAKNESS IN PUBLIC FORUMS makes no goddamn sense.

Yeah I think if Democrats were to pony up and say "Yeah he seems gone, we're gonna replace him with someone more fresh for the sake of the American public" that's a win when it comes to most who are not just frothing at the mouth for Trump. You'd also vitalize younger people to get out and vote if they know it's not between the cryptkeeper and the mummy. We haven't even hit the Dem convention yet so Biden is only the "official" nominee in the sense that he's the incumbent and all the $$ is going to him and no one has the balls to just stand up and say "naw man" for fear it would split votes and cause Biden to lose even more.

I have a few FB friends that are decidedly "not really going to put my political leanings on Facebook" but I see a WHOLE LOT of "holy shit these choices suck", just letting that sit for the election is absolutely terrible to do.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Honestly, there are more than enough “sick of voting in geriatric” swing voters that if you put anyone up under 65, I think you’d win on that factor alone.

But yeah it’s cutting it close, and since the dems at the head are dragging their feet, I don’t think they could switch fast enough.

One can only hope Trump has a big enough blunder just before the elections that voters forget everything else about Biden and vote in his corpse.

I'm sure this trivia has been posted before, but its INSANE that if Bill Clinton, the president from 30 years ago, ran today, he'd be younger than both candidates.

Those countries also generally have much higher voter turnout and a more informed public. I don't see any scenario where a guy replacing an incumbent 4 months before the election wins in this country.

Every single election, Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line.

Donald Trump is convicted of a felony and found culpable of a sexual assault. Voters some how love him more.

Biden has a bad debate and the party has completely fucking fallen apart and voters cannot coalesce around a decision, much less a candidate.

If the debate narrative was swapped, Republicans would be blaming the covid vaccine, building Trump a VAERS statue, and carrying his lifeless body into the oval office like it's w
    Weekend at Bernie's.

That used to be the rule, but Democrats fell in line pretty well in 2020 and Republicans have clearly fallen in love with Trump.

The problem is what you define as a Democrat. People who proudly and publicly accept the label are one thing. People who associate with the Dems as a compromise itself are much less disciplined. People who SHOULD align with the Dems for their self-interest but are the ones who need to be in love to vote.

People feeling that Biden's debate was like the Tet offensive that sunk LBJ's rating irreparably despite the successes of the Great Society.

But we should remember replacing LBJ didn't work that year. It's part of how we got Nixon (along with the white fright fears that the civil rights protests/riots from MLK, and lacking the best back-up candidate in RFK because of a gun happy anti-Israeli activist)

Not to totally shit on everything, but I doubt the debate mattered as much as you think. As a Canadian watching the shitshow, it's just an absolute given that 2024 is Trump's unless he's in an urn, which even then I wouldn't put it past people to still vote for the ashes. No offence, but that's literally the view of the gong show from up here.
