I suspect a lot are just going to look at it as voting for Kamala or whatever patsy Trump cons into the VP slot. It's still an absolutely shitty situation we could've avoided, but all we can do now is hope Trump doesn't pick someone who isn't mega hated and somewhat charismatic. And I think that would require him going outside the MAGA circle since we already know his base is locked in. Question is, what republican is dumb enough to risk it? Pence was arguably a nobody to anyone outside his state and I don't doubt he's regretted the choice by now since people on your side wanting to lynch you isn't really the best endorsement. That kind of concern is something a new VP will have to entertain.

But even if the Dems to scrape by, I just see them pushing another fogey in 2028 because boomers want us to fail.

    Joe Biden ActBlue email message:

    Biden-Harris 2024

    Folks,

I understand you can't turn on the television or get on the internet without seeing some pundit talking about how I need to drop out of the race.

    Nonsense.

I want you to ask yourself, what have these people been right about lately? Seriously. Think about it.

They were wrong when they said I couldn't win the Democratic nomination in 2020.

They were wrong when they said we wouldn't beat Trump (and there were many) months later.

They were wrong when they predicted massive Democratic losses in 2022. Remember the red wave?

They were wrong when they said we couldn't take on the NRA and pass the most significant gun safety legislation in three decades.

They were wrong when they said we couldn't take on big Pharma and allow Medicare to lower the cost of prescription drugs.

They were wrong when they said we could never take on the oil companies and pass the most significant climate change legislation in the history of the world.

And they are wrong again today.

    Folks, listen. Forget the pundits.

As long as we are in this together -- me and you -- not only are we going to beat Trump again this November, but we are going to go on to do what many think impossible in my second term: codify Roe, ban assault weapons, expand Social Security, and more.

But I cannot do this alone, and I've never needed you more than I do today. Everyone is looking to see if the grassroots support we need to win is still there.

I've seen it since the debate, but we have to keep going. So please:

Can I count on you to contribute $25 or whatever you can afford directly to my re-election campaign today? The amount isn't as important as the number of people donating while everyone is paying attention.

NEW YORK (AP) — The leader of a conservative think tank orchestrating plans for a massive overhaul of the federal government in the event of a Republican presidential win said that the country is in the midst of a “second American Revolution” that will be bloodless “if the left allows it to be.”

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts made the comments Tuesday on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast, adding that Republicans are “in the process of taking this country back.”

This isn't even a "can he win" so much as it is "who's actually running things" that may just scare voters into voting for the "least incompetent". They don't see Trump as dangerous because he rambles, they see Biden as dangerous because lacks coherence.

    Yikes. Just yikes. I'm worried.

Biden can talk all he wants but if the party truly wants him out it'll happen. The next couple days should give us more concrete polls showing the effect of the debate, and there's surely some nerds behind the scenes crunching the numbers on if it's worth replacing him.

The math is, his polls already looked bad for winning and needed the post-debate polls to be positive. Instead, all the post debate polls show that he lost ground across the board (but particularly with men).

If we stayed the course before the debate, Trump probably would have won. The debate was supposed to make a positive difference that gave Biden a shot by making people remember how much Trump sucks. Instead it hurt him, so now if we stay the course he is still losing.

At this point, we lose if we don't switch candidates. Why would we stay the course?

I can't think of an organization that could coalesce around a single leader and follow that leader with mad enthusiasm faster or easier than National Democrats.

    Idk what to tell you.

The path doesn't exist with Biden and may be super narrow with any other ticket, but no shot vs. moonshot is still a pretty easy call.

Obama should have pushed Biden to run in 2016, and now we would be exiting a second Biden term and electing our spring chicken Hillary Clinton.

To add onto what you're saying: Trump had a tough time getting his policies up and running because the people he hired didn't know how to do the Administrative Procedure Act. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world...2e9_story.html

I'm not sure if this plays into Project 2025 at all, but we did see Trump get away with having awful people run agencies without Senate approval by having "official performing the duties" of guy do the job without ever needing to worry about the time limit: https://www.npr.org/2020/03/09/81357...e-confirmation

There's been a slow trickle of news today about an increasingly large number of Dems calling for Biden to step aside.

I think this is intentional. They are going for a slow burn where they publicly give Biden as much of an off ramp as possible and try to avoid the impression of a break neck decision. It's possible the decision was already made.

That combined with Trump being caught saying he's dropping out tells me I think it's going to happen. Trump's obviously an idiot, but I wouldn't be surprised if his campaign had that kind of behind the scenes info.

He's still getting donation $$ and fundraising and that's all they care about. Also It would probably have to be Kamela because the fundraising is for Biden-Harris campaign and they would want to utilize those founds and not be tied up in pointless court battles in order to move the funds elsewhere. Kamela though is not the best of the picks available unless you're really entranced by her just repeating "what can be, unburdened by what has been", to her benefit though she's been so far out of the light on basically everything that no typical voter even knows she exists really.

If Biden sticks with it and loses we're going to have another RBG where they fuck up w/e "legacy" they hoped to establish and fuck us all over as well.

some nerds behind the scenes crunching the numbers on if it's worth replacing him.
I can't imagine you wouldn't see a large up tick in younger voters actually coming out for literally anyone other then Biden, especially if said person actually points to abortion as a key issue. Fucking hell, all you gotta do is just point out the abortion plans of 2025 and Trump and not about golf scores. Newsom is a douchebag but at least he has "charisma" enough, though the whole "California bad!" can be stuck on him for some GOP voters, but again just has to point out that CA isn't technically bankrupt yet Trump has ran numerous companies into the ground.

If I've learned anything, it's that if Biden loses, they'll run him again in 2028 cuz he hasn't had a 2nd term to be ineligible to run again.

Like as much as you keep hearing the people who go "literally anyone else" you're talking about people who somehow can't make a decision right now between malicious aspirational fascism vs sundowning senility.

I don't trust that those sorts of people come on board for "literally anyone else" like they say they will.

Like I think he should drop because this is a close race and the debate is having an outsized impact. But people are delusional if they think this race wouldn't have been close with another candidate.

I don't think Biden is hard committing to staying in. I think it's a matter of Biden himself doesn't yet believe he needs to drop out. Where his threshold is for making that decision is unknown but I wouldn't read too much into him saying he's staying in. Like archi said a while ago, that's the line you have to say until you actually throw in the towel.

There was a report Biden was talking with donors a few days ago, so the possibility of them keying up donors for a new candidate might be in the works. Who knows. I am trying to not stress out until we hear more this coming week.

Same, but I would reiterate what Gred posted - people are literally on the fence between a fucking horrible human being whose previous presidency and behavior of his ardent supporters should fucking terrify the most steeled versus a guy who's lacking energy but has been making a shit ton of changes and political wins.

The scariest thing is losing more Supreme Court seats and being totally fucked.

Nah, the scariest thing is the schedule F stuff but it is so boring that people can't engage long enough to understand it.

Your point is what's the hardest for me to understand. Here you have a human being that is the epitome of every one of humanity's worst traits. Has been caught doing the unthinkable over and over again, and it's a fucking toss up? When I was younger, I really believed everyone had a basic level of goodness inside them, that people were generally smart. 2016 absolutely shattered that, and the cognitive dissonance has been eating me up ever since. I don't understand what's so plain for us to see is absolutely hidden from a large portion of the population.

I've been struggling a lot with this myself the past decade. It's made me see the world differently, and I like it less than I used to. Life is suffering, and I hope my son doesn't become as jaded as Ive become.
